Just wondering if anyone had tried any of the Micro Batch kits that Homebrew Depot offer. They're based in Homerton, London not too far from me. London seems to be really lacking in Homebrew stores!
I've only just started this hobby - have made a very succesful Stout, despite doing everything wrong that I could (didn't discover this forum until nearly finished!). Have got a Brewferm Grand Cru in the fermenter.
The kits from Homebrew Depot seem like a logical step forward, especially for someone like me that has very limited space.
Do they seem like a good idea - or is it better value to buy stuff separately (i'd have no idea what to buy, or how to start boiling wort....

It looks like the price charged is mainly for the equipment - is there anything on the kit list you don't have?
If it's brewing materials, these can be purchased for a LOT less :)

- agree, but they also do a refill kit for £10, which is just ingredients - I guess that would be what I would go for as the full £40 kit includes a equipment that i've already got. I guess they're aiming at the newcomers.

Yep, the refill kits aren't too bad...i'd either purchase that or make your own.
What sort of beers would you be looking to make, and how big is your kit?

As chris points out, £40 is a lot of money for a 5L kit. I could do about 3-4 full 23L brews for that. But your right it's aimed at the beginner.

Have a look at this. It's basically the same thing but cheaper

Their stand alone malt prices as expensive too though. For 1kg of marris otter base malt is £2.50. Wheras where I get it, geterbrewed.com, it's 1.75/kg.

There are a couple of other places(I know of) in London where you can buy ingredinets. I started of buying from here: http://londonbeerlab.com/home-brew-supplies/ then I transferred my custom to here as it's closer to me: https://ubrew.cc/ but the problem with ubrew is they don't list what ingredients they have in stock as their core business isn't selling to HBers.
I then realized that if I buy grain enough for two brews, even with the P&P it works out to roughly the same as what I was paying from the other places so I now buy online from here http://www.geterbrewed.com/ I like them as they do amounts down to 250g which many online retailers don't do, buying online gives me a greater range of grains to choose from plus we also get a discount of 5% as forum members

There's something up with your first link mate - just takes me to a "new reply" page.

Many thanks MyQul - that link is great. I just wanted to try something basic, but the next step up from a standard kit. I haven't got space for a great deal of large equipment, and I can pick up the ingredients pretty cheaply.
May well call into Homebrew Depot at some point and pick up a refill kit to see what its like, but I guess half the fun is messing around with different hops and malts.
