Not sure which kit would make a clone but as but if I was going to have a go at a kit clone, Id find a nice malty bitter kit (look on the kit reviews here: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=56558).
Then according to the Brains site for SA it says "balanced with a satisfying dryness from the unique use of three hops: Challenger, Goldings and Fuggles." and I found an AG clone, http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=43529 (post 6), so I would then make an EKG hop tea (added at bottling time. Maybe at the 40min challenger additon too) to replicate the late hop additions and dry hop with fuggles.

Good luck. Just be aware it's hard enough to make an AG clone. I usually just aim for a beer in the style of.... So it's even harder to do with a kit. My hop tea/dry hop suggestion will hopefully get you in the ball park

Can't help with SA but I found the coopers English bitter +1kg bke turned out like a stronger version of Brains smooth. Worth giving a go as it's a nice, easy drinking beer perfect for the pressure barrel.

Thanks for the tips, I probably should have said in the style of, instead of clone, had a couple of bottles of SA last night and liked it because it was quite malty and not overly hoppy. Will try the coopers English bitter and see how it turns out with the hops from SA

Having drunk quite a lot of this on numerous rugby trips to Cardiff, should warn you that it's nickname is Silly ****

As a Cardiffian for more than 50 years, The nickname always used to be Skull Attack, Back in the day it was one of the stronger beers on draught. Things have changed, obviously.
