Am I doing something wrong?

I was under the impressing that using a false bottom with a dip tube would create a syphon and therefore suck up more liquid out of the mash tun.

I did a dead space test with just a bazooka filter, it was 2.75 litres. Just tested the false bottom and it is 3.35 litres.

Any ideas?

As long as the exit of the tap is lower than the entry of the dip tube you should get a syphon effect. If it's not lower then a piece of tubing attached to the end of the tap will do the job.

Perfect, thank you :) seems obvious now you've said it.

Attached a hose to the tap to a bucket on the floor, dead space is now 225ml.
