I read something about it once - one possibility is the Monty Python sketch giving rise to it. Spam, spam, spam, spam ad nauseum.

Vambrace, i think you are right there, as i saw something on this the other day. They said something about the original coders who came up with email clients were of the 'geekier' variety and did indeed make reference to the monty python sketch. Lets hope this is true, or the truth doesn't ever come out to spoil this as i think its brilliant
