Hi Folks,
Sorry if this has been asked before.
I have been a small scale cider maker for several years and have always used a garden shredder to pulp the apples prior to pressing. In fact, making all that fruit coleslaw is the best bit!
I have never been able to afford a proper scratter.
However, would a hand cranked pulper work better?
What is everyone thoughts/experiences on this?

Thanks for looking.

I use a scratter, the one most commonly seen in the ads but the it's slow, the apples have to be halved or quartered and the pieces are too big to press. So, the pulp has to have a second pass. I'm tempted to buy one of those tube electric pulpers for future cider making.
