Stabilizer and degassing?

I have a 30 day beaverdale wine kit. However instructions could be clearer.
My question do I add stabilizer and leave for a few days then start degassing or add stabilizer and Degas's immediately?

Also I have made a degassing wand with an electric drill. How many times a day and how many days should I Degas for? Thanks
 
Got a Beaverdale Nebbiolo on the go at the moment I read the instructions as saying, make sure fermentation has finished, 0.995 or below for a couple of days. Then add stabiliser and stir 3 times daily for 3-4 mins. Do that for 3 or 4 days then proceed with fining.

However I just wait till fermentation is over then add stabiliser and stir vigorously for 5 mins, repeat a couple of times over the space of half an hour then add finings.
Never had a wine that wouldn't clear or has a slight fizz to it.

Just checked with a California Connoisseur kit I'm still yet to do and it's instructions are as I've just described, or as near as makes no difference.

5 seconds forward then 5 second reverse then keep switching every 5 seconds for a minute and its job done.

I did my first wine a few weeks ago. I did the wine in my fermentation buckets. I bought a cheap paint stirrer for the job. It did an amazing job degassing the wine. Obviously would not be any good in a demijohn. To save any mess I did it in the garage and was very careful, it worked a treat.

Personally I gave up on active degassing a long time ago. Leaving with an air lock on for at least a couple of weeks after adding stabiliser does the job fine and helps it settle nicely. Personally I prefer this over the idea of risking lots of oxygen getting into the wine. As long as you are patient then there's no need for drills/whips/shaking or other nastiness to the wine.

I've never degassed a wine and I never add stabiliser. Can't see the point of either.
 
All this de-gassing and stabilising is relatively new.
I, like others above had said, prefer to leave my wines, and not add any unnecessary chemicals.
Time is the key - there ain't many wines that won't clear on their own with a couple of rackings and a little time.
Build up a reasonable stock, and cut out the chemicals.
People are just so impatient these days....

We have quite a small house so we can only really make one batch at a time and we don't have much room to keep stocks while ageing for many weeks to let it degas and clear naturally, if people want to finish their wine quick and the chemicals are provided in the kit i don't see the problem.

Get a bigger house!
 
The home made degasser and drill worked a treat. 4 inch of foam on top after a minute with drill. Made a mistake though. I didn't shake the Kieselsol sachet before adding. Will this cause issues? Thanks

I have never used it but imagine the drill and wand will have done enough to mix it properly.
