I made my first brew and it tasted horrible. It smelt good but had a nasty aftertaste(it was the beer works southern gold digger) . I want to do a pale ale next . I love beers like punk ipa, Adnams mosaic , Meantime London pale etc . Any recommendations for a kit that might be similar to these. I liked the look of the mangrove jacks craft series and the Bulldog brew kits.

Hi I make the Youngs American ipa & it’s a very good reliable kit, large pouch of extract & 1kg of brewing sugar so plenty to ferment, also a dry hop pouch with three different hops & priming sugar for bottling, the result after about four weeks conditioning is like 6.5% punk ipa.
I have given a few to friends and they all love the stuff.
Give one a try I’m sure you’ll have a better brew.

You can't go too far wrong with either the Youngs or Festival premium kits, though if your first brew
was horrible it might be something you need to fix with your method rather than the kit
- controlling temperature, sanitizing etc.

Yeah think I did. I did sanitise and followed the instructions but I must of done something wrong .

I'll second the Youngs APA. This was my first brew and just bottled yesterday. I know it is going to be good as every time I took a reading I drank the contents of the trial jar and wanted more 😁

I'll be doing the IPA next, but need to free up some bottles first. The pale ale is still pretty hoppy if you ask me.

I made the Coopers Belgian style Hefe Wheat kit with 1Kg of wheat spray malt and 500g of brewing sugar. It is really really nice. I’ll definitely be doing that again. I have a Mangrove Jacks Pink Grapefruit IPA conditioning and I’m going to try a Mangrove Jacks Wheat Beer next.

Woodford bure gold and tiny rebel cwtch. Both awesome kit brews. Keep the fermenting temp as stable as possible to ensure best results.

So it appears it’s just my tastebuds . Other people are liking it lol. Anyway after your suggestions I have gone for two kits , the youngs and mangrove jacks juicy ipa .

Two really good kits - just be patient (don't follow the lead times in the instructions too closely), and you'll end up with great beer.

Just put my first batch of Youngs pale ale i to cold storage, but had a sneaky bottle last night and it was nicer than any of the other commercial beers I followed it with, so that is promising. Have ordered a Youngs IPA kit, so will start that in a couple of weeks. My wife is cracking up tho as I temporarily moved the microwave to the dining floor to make room for the fermenter and then the bottling storage phase and now I'm about to do it all again.

I'm tempted to stick with the Youngs theme after that as the weather warms up and try their new world saison, but I've never tried this style of beer and some say its an acquired taste. Do any of the supermarkets do a Saison that would help me decide if I like it or not? Don't fancy brewing for 6 weeks only to end up with 40 pints of marmite :-)

After that, I think I'll try the mangove jacks juicy ipa as I hear it mentioned so often. just the name has me salivating. Then maybe a brief turn to the dark side and try a wine to try and win my wife back before she leaves me.

Ha Ha. I'm in the same boat. Yesterday morning I bottled a Festival Oaked Apple Cider Kit and in the evening I started a Brophoria James Blonde Ale Kit. Took over the kitchen table. My wife was throwing her eyes up to heaven. I made a batch of 29 bottles of Pinot Grigio a few weeks ago for her too as she does not like beer, but loves a glass or two of Pinot Grigio. Just to try and keep her on side with this Homebrew Malarkey.
I'm putting on a Mangrove Jacks Bavarian Wheat Beer next and have a Mangrove Jacks Pink Grapefruit IPA conditioning. I will also try out the Mangrove Jacks Juicy IPA soon. I'm building up a summer supply at the moment.
