Covid-19: Mystery UK person with Brazil variant found

A mystery person in the UK infected with the Covid variant of concern first found in Brazil has now been traced.
Last week, it was announced that six cases of the P.1 variant had been found in the UK - but the identity of one of the cases was unknown.
The person, who lives in Croydon, has been traced, as have their contacts.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the person "stayed at home" and there was no sign of any onward transmission - but local testing is being rolled out.
Scientists say the variant appears to be more contagious and there are concerns vaccines may not be as effective against it.
But Dr Susan Hopkins from Public Health England said it hoped vaccines would have a strong impact on reducing hospitalisations and deaths.

Levels of coronavirus infections in the UK have continued to fall, Office for National Statistics data shows.

The figures, for the seven days up to 27 February, reveal around 1-in-230 people has the virus in the community.

It suggests that the number infected has fallen by about a third in the most recent week of data.

Infections have also dropped in the over 70s age group in England, potentially as a result of the vaccine rollout, say experts.

The latest R number - 0.7 and 0.9 - suggests infection numbers are shrinking overall in the UK. It means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 7 and 9 other people.

So I felt terrible after my jab, but since that I've felt absolutely fantastic. Prior to that I was having daily headaches and various other niggly but not enough to get a test/stay in bed symptoms for about a month. Wonder if I had long covid or something. There's some evidence of people finding that the vaccine is knocking their long covid symptoms on the head .. Anyone else had benefits from their jab?

The jab has made a huge difference but sadly this shows no one is 100% safe.
Yes, due to his poor health it may have had the same outcome for him without the covid and the jab probably prevented him catching it sooner than he did.

I received my appointment letter this morning and have booked my appointment, 3 weeks to go.

Had the Oxford jab yesterday. Very efficient and quick process in my local leisure centre. Some will have been following the brew off threa, so will be aware that I would be drinking four pints of DIPA. I am not sure whether it was the drink but towards the end of the session I started getting s terrible headache and chills. I put it down to being in front of a screen day and night, plus the broken sound and flashing images of a zoom call.

I decided to call it a night and tidied the empty bottles and made my way upstairs. By the time I got upstairs I was frozen. I had never experienced cold like it. I cranked the heating up, put numerous layers on and several blankets on the bed. I was shivering so much I struggled to breath and my body was ache all over. I was drifting in and out of sleep but kept bring woken by the cold and vivid dreams. I regularly had the same dream as a child and I was having them again. About 3am I woke covered in sweet, I was boiling hot. I went into the bathroom thinking I was going to be sick. My wife went to get my a glass of water and as she came back in I collapsed, I was overheating. I convinced her not to call a ambulance and that I will be ok. We managed to bring my temperature down and back to bed. Not that I had much sleep, more dreams and constant aches, hot one minute,.cold the next. Since about lunch time I have been a lot better, if not a little tired.

In hindsight I shouldn't have drank. Never experienced anything like it. Like watching the cold chicken scene from transpotting

I had the Oxford jab two Saturdays ago. I woke up a few times in the night after either really hot or freezing cold then got a cracking headache about 3.00pm on Sunday (24 hours after the jab). I took some Ibuprofen and then another dose before bed then slept right through (apart from a wee at about 4.00am) and woke up fine the next day.

Just had my first jab - Oxford/AstraZeneca. Really smooth operation at a local RBS office building near me that had been volunteered or commandeered for the purpose. Settling in with expectations of side effects now, but I’ll take that any day.

In other news the one bedroom AirBnB flat in out stairwell decided that the rules didn’t apply to them and had a party last night. Counted 10 people out when the police came to break it up 🤬. I’ll be glad when more people are vaccinated and we can do that kind of thing again, in the meantime f**k-em.

I hope all those idiots get a huge fine.

How was someone able to rent a airbnb. Hopefully the owner gets a fine too.

Still not great today. Woke up this morning in loads of pain, shoulders, collar bones and arms in bits. Hot or cold all the time and tired
