No leadership, no direction. Time to throw the towel in and let the Torys run the country unaposed. Be a lot better off.
Unopposed? Tories?

You can't hide on here from us smug condescending lefties! Even when the left is getting battered in the polls, we will still correct your spelling and grammar for you. Because we care! 😉

I didn’t hear that so I don’t know the context, but it does seem as if she’s suggesting that the way to deal with voters moving ever closer to the right, is for Labour to move closer to the left.

They asked her why they lost Hartlepool after all these years and she said what I quoted above.

Unopposed unlimited galactic empire.. I am sure that will go well.

Whatever political believe systems we adopt , we should all strive for there to be opposition to question.

Any unopposed party going down any route is never a good thing.

I find it quite amazing that even those in the Labour Party don't seem to understand why they've been hammered in Hartlepool - or at least, they won't come out and say it.

Whatever your feelings on Brexit, if you spend 3 years as party leader publicly trying to overturn the result of a democractic referendum, and then expect people to vote for you simply because you're 'the party of the working class', no one should be surprised when those people see straight through you.

Which party leader spent 3 years trying to overturn the ‘democratic referendum’? It wasn’t Starmer became wasn’t leader and Corbyn certainly didn’t.

Because he wasn’t *

I should have been clearer. Starmer spent 3 years trying to overturn Brexit, then when he becomes party leader, expects everyone in leave constituenices like Hartlepool to just forget that and put their trust in him. People don't forget.

We are becoming a one party country. The lib dems are largely forgotten about and the Labour Party is heading the same way. Its all well and good saying you want to stand up for the working class; but that needs to be reflected in clear, coherent policy. Starmer doesn't seem to have been able up until now to drag the Party to a point where people are wanting to vote for them.

Summary

The Conservatives win the Hartlepool by-election with a majority of 6,940 votes, and a swing from Labour of 16%

It's the first time the town has elected a Conservative MP to Parliament since the constituency was created in 1974

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says results so far have been very promising for the Tories

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says nothing as he leaves home but a shadow minister calls the result "absolutely shattering"

Union leader Len McCluskey says people don't know what Labour stand for now and he hopes Starmer learns lessons

The Conservatives also win control of councils in Northumberland, Harlow, Redditch, Dudley and Nuneaton & Bedworth

Full results in the Welsh Parliament elections are expected later while first results from the Scottish Parliament are being announced

Labour has won the mayoral contest in Doncaster, with more mayoral results due later across England

In fairness to Starmer, I don't think that there’s much he could
