Hi all, just joined the forum after finding it whilst trawling the web for info and inspiration. Only started with home-brew a month ago so very early days! I do however have a mentor that is probably on here too that has assisted me on my journey so far. Made a couple of extract kits and now going to try a grain kit.

Welcome Tony,
I used to live in Dorset; where are you from?
So. What kinds of beer do you like drinking (not an offer to get them in, note well) and what are your brewing plans?

Well, I’m from Preston in Lancashire but live just outside Dorchester. I’ve got a couple of extract kits to do, a stout and a Suffolk old ale, I’m then off on the grain chasing old peculier style beers and anything else that takes my fancy!

You’ve just put me in the mood for an Old Peculiar (I’m easily influenced) and having checked my stocks I don’t have one 😢

Welcome to the forum anyway. Cheers!

I'm Dorchester area based. Welcome to the forum 👍

Hi, not that I’m aware of as only just started. I was informed Dorset homebrew is good and that they are based in Wimborne, although it appears they may have moved to Bournemouth?

They used to trade out of wimborne market and had a unit / warehouse Poole way. Closer to home you've got the health food shop in Trinity street who do some bits and bobs, and Wilko in Weymouth, but that's pretty much your lot.

I used to live 2 minutes away from Dorset homebrew in Wimborne. Now they trade from a unit in Poole, and as far as I can tell it's online only with no walk in.

I know I sound like an old groat, but there used to be some really great HB shops in and around Poole - and I used to love doing the Saturday pilgrimage......ah well times a change I spose.

It’s a shame our LHBS seem to be thin on the ground, at least there are some good online places we can use, but that’s probably why there a non local!

Hundreds of years ago there used to be one on North Road and another in Sterte. Are those the ones you're thinking of? That was half a century or more ago.

Yep! Remember being taken there by my Dad. I particularly remember the one in Sterte - what a great shop that was. The smell as you entered.....

...... and when you'd made your purchase, he'd calculate some kind of discount based on parameters known only to himself and which was always unexpected. Happy days, those.
