I'm still puzzled by the packed stadiums and lack of masks here for college and pro ball. Maybe there won't be a significant change in cases because of it?
I've been listening to the careful messages delivered by the announcers at both levels across all networks: "We're back, it's good to be back and not have empty stadiums."
Reminds of this You Tube video I saw some years ago where, say, it was Easter and 25 different clips of stations across the US gave the exact same message. The link below isn't the exact one I saw but gives a good idea of what I mean.

Our football stadiums are just the same 75,000 watching United most with no masks. I still wear a mask in shops and supermarkets but lots don't.

It depends on the city (I have at least five cities within driving range) as to how high the percentage of people who wear masks is inside a store. The cities with lower income per capita is where I see fewer masks being worn. There's either a lot being worn or very few. Went into the GIANT Asian grocery store and I saw only two not wearing a mask out of hundreds of people. Asian store was an anomaly since Asians have a different history with wearing masks.
I just go by what the medical pros say and at the moment they're saying wear one indoors if there's a crowd even if you're fully vaccinated.
Head of the CDC here is shaking his head at the current scene of people jamming into stadiums.

Listening to 5 live earlier they were saying masks might be brought back in if things get much worse

I'm not sure how much worse numbers need to get before we take measures and stop pretending the virus is under control. No data in yet on the effect of the huge sporting event crowds.
Above is a graph of New Cases, US, from the beginning of the pandemic to the present and we are trending up.
By all accounts from those responsible for recording cases, the numbers are actually much higher and, in some cases, misrepresented intentionally.

The trick to boost your immune system would be to expose yourself to a low viral load as opposed to a large amount of covid19. So maybe the lack of compulsory mask wearing is a sneaky backdoor way of doing it. We were going to visit magic rock but when we got there it was too busy so we didn't go in. I don't think I'll ever go back to a packed indoor space with little or no ventilation again.

It looks like we will be back to wearing masks soon i cannot see the numbers falling back and plan B will be introduced before christmas -

Measures to deal with rising Covid cases in England over the winter have been announced - with a contingency "Plan B" if things get worse.
Single vaccines will be offered to children aged 12-15 and booster jabs to over-50s, health workers and the most vulnerable. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have confirmed they will offer the same.
What is England's Plan A?
It's called the Covid-19 Response: Autumn and Winter Plan.
Covid booster jabs will be offered to around 30 million people, including the over-50s, younger adults with health conditions and frontline health and social care workers.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said Plan A would also include offering vaccines to youngsters aged 12-15 and continuing to encourage unvaccinated people to get jabbed.
Plan A also includes:
  • continuing the work of NHS Test and Trace and with free PCR tests
  • encouraging free flu vaccine take-up (extended to over-50s and secondary school pupils)
  • reminding people to let in fresh air if meeting indoors and to wear face coverings in crowded settings
What is England's Plan B?
If Plan A is not sufficient to prevent "unsustainable pressure" on the NHS, the government says Plan B will be required "as a last resort" - including:
Plan B could be brought in at short notice as a response to "concerning" data.
Government scientific advisers haven't said exactly what this data would be, but say it's important to keep an eye on:
  • the number of hospitalisations
  • rapid rates of change in figures
  • the overall state of the NHS
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said parts of Plan B could be introduced gradually, rather than all at once.

And plan C is what? Another lockdown to be announced 2 days before Christmas I suspect.

Lets hope it doesn't get to that -

Gunge
1. Do you believe the Moon landing in1969 was real?
2. Are there aliens artefacts at Area 51.
3. Is there such a thing as a nice Tory?

I know this was aimed at gunge but here are my answers.

1. Do you believe the Moon landing in1969 was real?

Yes but I have seen plenty of so called evidence that made me doubt it.

2. Are there aliens artefacts at Area 51.

I believe there were but you can bet they haven't been there for many years.

3. Is there such a thing as a nice Tory?

I have yet to see one.

Went to my first gig for two years last night. Conditions for entry were either a covid pass or a negative lateral flow test. I'm double jabbed so had a covid pass on my phone. Bloke on the door looked at it for a split second and said "That's fine mate". Didn't scan the QR code or even check the name. Complete and utter waste of time.

In the US, COVID-19 statistical reporting is politically motivated and/or handled ineptly and so you get irregular (not realistic) representations of the actual situation. I have read that our US numbers, even in situations with good intentions, are greatly underreported. So I can only imagine what places like Florida are doing to cook the books (early on that state's governor went after a lady who was honestly reporting statistics).
The conservative party's focus in the US is only on being toxic and achieving or holding power above all else (such as doing what's best for all) despite being a clear minority.

Do you have a similar problem with getting accurate COVID statistics in the UK?
