Hi brewers. What is a good FV size for a G40? Is a G30 conical big enough to take a full volume brew from a G40? Is a 14gal Brew bucket a better idea? It's a goldilocks question. One seems too small, the other too big. Anyone with a good idea? Suggestions welcome. I'd also like to pressure ferment but neither of those can do that...

Always better to have more head space than too little.

Understood, but excessive headspace in a no pressure FV isn't a good thing is it?
I am buying kit and I want to buy the right thing. The G40 seems great kit, but it seems out of whack for std FV sizes? Genuine questions, really looking for sound advice before I shell out all my peas!

Excessive is better than to little. Brew a stout with too little space is asking for trouble, they can get very lively. Not enough and it gets very messy.

What about 2 conicals, with temp control? Or 3 corny kegs for pressure fermentation?

It's not bad for the money. I bought it direct, we were in the eu then though.

I had one like that but not for long - the pressed lid thread does not fit very well and the gasket supplied was useless: I finished up making a new one from neoprene cord. I still have the 15 litre version of these Italian vessels which I use for sparge water, but I would not use one of these as a fermenter again. The Grainfather fermenter is a much better bit if kit - it is what I bought to replace this Italian one.

I’m considering the G40 and this got me and I think there are loads of options.

My brain is “working” along this…

I have a 30L All Rounder.
my ferm chamber could just about fit this and another all rounder or a bucket.

if I did a double batch with the intention of filling two Corny kegs I could split the fermentation. 20L would leave a lot of head space but that’ll soon get pushed out my CO2. I can easily purge 2-3 kegs with the CO2 from a fermentation.

minus trub loss it will probably be a bit short of a full keg unless I suck up loads of junk.

that gives a couple of options.
1. fill each keg with as much as possible and be happy with the headspace in the keg.
2. push the G40 over the 40L limit to maybe get 43-44L.
3. Brew the wort at a higher gravity than I need and liquor back a few litres.

If I’m honest 2 seems like it might take forever to get it boiling and I’m short of time.

1 or 3 seem like the likely options. 3 if I hit or overshoot my numbers. 1 if I can’t be bothered to do 3.
