Where can I get one? It doesn't matter which model as long as it's like 28 cm diameter. max! My old one which I have never used is far too large to use in this boiler. However, in the mean time I have found a clever way to use it via sparging. But ultimately, I'd prefer to just GB inside the boiler instead of a muslin bag. Any ideas where I can get one? I've looked but can't seem to find the correct diameter :C

In my early days of brewing I used one of these in a boiler. Drilled hundreds of 2mm hole in the bottom. Fine up to 80 C if I remember right.

I don't see a problem if I am still using a muslin bag and i can hook up a cut coat hanger on it for sparge with an oven grill underneath it.
It is just painted metal. You need something food safe, heaven knows what chemical reaction you will get from that. Wouldn't be so bad if it was galvanised, at least you will get some zinc into your mash.

Nowt wrong with burning that off with a blow torch. I am not arguing with you friend. You have valid points. But in the absence of a viable of alternative, it only makes sense to me that I get creative.

The problem then is it will be mild steel, the pH of your mash will rust it almost straight away and you will get a metallic taste in your beer. On the first mash more than likely.

Right that is a pain. Just checked here and I can get one for about 40 pounds, trouble is borders not open so I can't pop it in my luggage. Pre covid I was back and forward about 4 x per year.

Have you considered making one out of fine stainless steel mesh to mimic the clawhammer style " malt pipes " which are like really big hop spiders.

Hmmm...pondering what to do. In the mean time, I will be putting my grain basket up for sale in the forum. I think the diameter is like 35 cm. Which is way too large for my burco and my klarstein. Perhaps more suitable for someone who is doing a 60 gallon mash - may be.

I'd be interested in the grain basket as I've just got a 70L pan, how much do you want for it ?

Well it was bought for ÂŁ39 but never used. The legs came in a bit wonky, but I am sure that can be fixed, as was small portion of the grain mesh. I am sure that can be fixed too. Umm I am thinking may be ÂŁ17&p?

Sounds reasonable.
Can you measure the exact width, it would be too small for my 70L pan but might suit my 38L - cheers đź‘Ť
