I actually feel sorry for the majority of people in Scotland - that's the majority who don't vote for the SNP and the majority who voted in 2014 to remain in the Union in a 'once in a generation referendum'. Sturgeon is perfectly happy to ignore each and every one of them in her pursuit of more and more power.

I have family and many friends in Scotland and life under the SNP has become very tough. Education is going backwards, the health service is a mess, the deficit has increased and certain monies appear to have disappeared and can't be found. Many businesses in Scotland suffered more than businesses in the rest of the UK during the pandemic, as the SNP don't seem to be very good at handing out money given to them by Westminster. They're a bunch of third-rate 'politicians' (I use the word loosely), who want independence at ANY cost - regardless of the negative impact it will have on people's lives and prosperity.

It's all smoke and mirrors anyway - they can't have a referendum without the approval of Westminster, and that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I like Ian Blackford - he is miles and miles better than Johnson who can't seem to tell the truth no matter what he opens his mouth to say. Glad I am not one of his ministers made to go out to lie for him only to have the carpet pulled under them when Boris remembers that he actually did do whatever they were told to say he didn't. Can't say i am a fan of the SNP in general though, I think they are living in a fantasy world to some extent - a bit like "taking back control" was.

Care to explain the fantasy? Ireland manages. Norway manages, Sweden manages, Estonia manages, Finland manages, Netherlands and Belgium manage. Hell, even Iceland, who suffered the most heavily during the global financial crisis, manage to have a thriving economy.

This myth that's peddled about Scotland being incapable of going it alone is not only offensive, but it's completely intellectually bankrupt.

The world is literally rife with similar sized countries with less resources.

Too wee, too poor, too stupid....

Peddled by the literal same folk who insisted Brexit was a good idea.

Blackford’s hounding of Charles Kennedy when he was at his lowest, was absolutely disgusting.

His own party treated him like ***** before Blackford stuck the knife in. That being said, Blackford is an arsehole.

Then surely the best thing Nicola Sturgeon can do is prove it ,announce a date that Scotland will say that they will not take any money from the British government for say 18 months and will pay there own way ,pensions,NHS ,normal gov spending ,their share of UK debt etc,and then once that is proved it would be another step forward .

🤣🤣🤣

Give your head a wobble ffs

So are you saying that the idea of Scotland being financially independent is ridiculous and i am a idiot for suggesting it ? I always thought that was what independence was ,i did not give a time frame, it could be in ten years time ?

Does that include cutting off all tax revenues currently taken from the North Sea?

If so, I'm not sure it'll be the Scottish Government coming cap in hand.

It's another argument that makes me chuckle. Even if you accept that Scotland is an economic basket case, it's happened whilst being under the auspices of The Union. Essentially you're making another argument for full fiscal controls and independence.

There will absolutely be forums where your bad faith, reductive, and embarrassing strawman areguments are entertained. You can count me out though.

I am sure I and millions of other Scots look forward to you making a case for the continuation of the Union In future, but evidently you just want to be silly and childish now.

I get it. I am a member of various other forums where bad faith trolls unfortunately make up the majority of one side of the argument, but I am absolutely sure, any day now.... IMMINENTLY, you are going to explain to us why the rule of the criminal cartel we never voted for, that currently infests the vipers nest of Westminster, represents the best future of our children

He's saying you're making a fatuous argument.

Yoons embarrassing themselves is going to be a cornerstone of this run at independence. I am no liver of the SNP, but the UK gov and their morally blind supporters are the gift that will not stop giving.

It's up to the Yes movement to knock in the open goal that is the bad faith motivation the likes of which we see from this particular poster.

As we know, it should be a breeze. Until 2014 no country had ever voted against their own independence. We can only hope people like starseeker and their breathtaking arrogance help us to ensure it does t happen again.

Because the figures the SNP use are based on oil revenues that are either not obtainable or not long term. The other countries you mention are long standing independent states - Denmark has the oldest continuous flag in the world and their economies are planned accordingly. The second point is that the SNP sells the idea that it will rejoin the EU when quite clearly Spain and a number of other states will not agree to a province separating from its existing country and being rewarded with membership - for very obvious reasons. That is why I am saying its a fantasy - just like Brexit was.

I think Brexit was a bad idea, I think that the Iraqi war was a bad idea and I also think that Scottish independence is a bad idea - I think i will be right on all three. I use economic and geopolitical reasoning not patronizing ideas to reach this conclusion

You've used fairly baseless speculation.

Imagine basing your entire pitch for independence on a commodity that isn’t just finite, but the world is actively trying to use less of it.

Hell we are less than 7.5 years away from new internal combustion engine vehicles being banned for sale in the UK.

Agreed.

Who is doing that?
