Hi

So it's bottling day and I've run out of my usual steriliser. I'll be transferring the beer to a king keg equipped with a wand, so I need to sterilise it.

I've picked up some Milton liquid from boots and it says on the side you don't have to rinse.

Is that true also for my purpose or do you recommend a cold water swill before use?

Simon

You don't have to rinse in terms of safety, but in terms of flavour, you definitely should rinse. It has a strong TCP type of aroma, which you definitely don't want in your bottles. (Babies either don't mind, or don't know to complain)

Ah right. That makes sense. Thanks. I was rather hoping I'd stumbled on a no rinse solution. I find the whole sterilising thing a real PITA.

Star San is no rinse. It's about £14 per bottle but I've had mine for about 18months and I've only used about half of it cuz you only need 1.5ml per/L and you can resuse it loads of times

Faversham I've been using Milton since January (I bought two bottles and I'm too tight not to use them up) so far so good but I do always rinse. With a cap making 5L they're going to last an age. When they do run out I'm buying MQ's never ending bottle of Starsan.

Ha if it 's endless perhaps we can share it...

Thanks guys. Starsan sounds like a plan. I think I'm quite fastidious about sanitation but never been hugely confident that things are really clean after a water rinse. Sort of seems like introducing a risk factor.
