Mini Keg Usage, Maintenance & Party Star Deluxe Part 2

Ok so were not quite finished. When you purchase your mini kegs they will come with the red and black bungs, here's a break down of one now your probably thinking why am i showing you this? And the reason is if you didn't already know, these bungs can be used with a party star tap and ill come onto that in a mo. So with these bungs normally you would twist the top allowing air into the keg so once you open the bottom tap its allows a flowing pour. But if you wanted to use a tap you simply lift the top tab and pull right off now the keg is ready to be tapped into with your tap. Place the tap onto the red bit of the bung and push down.

Click the tap end down to the keg first and then the other side
And that's it you've tapped into your keg. Now if you get into just using kegs with taps your going to want to pick up some grey bungs like this or I think you can get brown too
Ok so just before I move onto cleaning and lubing the Party Star Deluxe Tap ill quickly cover lubing your kegs own tap as after a few times of cleaning the keg itself the tap will need lubing. So pull your tap out and apply some Vaseline to the tap give the tap a push in and out and your done.

Cheers. It sounds sad but I love mini kegs. I would ofcourse love to get onto cornies but I just don't have the cash. Maybe someone would like to donate me a cornie setup after this????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thought not. Lol.

There seem to be two types of bungs fitted to mini kegs and it has caused some confusion.

The type with red outer with black inner, need to be replaced for black outer with red inner as per Rob's description.

I was inspired by these threads to get some mini kegs - a question before I use them this weekend: how full should I fill them? I was planning to leave about 10mm at the top? I'm going to experiment with the sugar across the three kegs and see what the difference is....

Best to syphon 5litres in - I think the headspace is about 15-20mm though.

12.5g of regular tate and lyle sugar per minikeg works well (mixed with a little boiling water to make a gloopy syrupbefore dumping it into the keg and syphoning the beer in on top).

The minikegs won't take much pressure before deforming (I have read) and you get nicely carbed ale anyway from 12.5g of sugar so be careful about experimenting with much more priming sugar.
