Or Brew Your Own British Real Ale, by Graham Wheeler (sponsored by The Home Brew Shop, and published by CAMRA).

Another excellent book, covering brewing methods, ingredients and over 100 recipes.

ISBN 978-1-85249-258-8.

Fantastic book, really easy for a new Brewer and love the fact the recipes are split into different volumes i.e it has a recipe just the right size for a corny without any need to actually have to do some maths:)

Great book. Does feel a little dated and lacks yeast selection, but there's no doubt about the quality. Lots of recipes for traditional British beers. Something every British Brewer should be able to brew classic examples of. 😍.

My copy turned up today.

Bought it for the recipes as there's loads of classics in there that I want to try with liquid yeast, particularly TT Landlord, 6X, Directors and London Pride.

There's the basis of brewing in there too, but it's the recipes that make it worth the purchase.

If and when you put the recipes into a receipe calc, make sure you put the hops in as leaf hops rather than pellet. Took me ages to work out why the IBU's were so off.

The TT Landlord recipe makes a fantastic beer as does the wadsworth JCB ( I haven't tried the 6x). Directors is on my list to try and a Pedigree clone is in the FV as we speak.

Great book. As someone previously mentioned it could do with the inclusion of yeast suggestions.

If you're going to brew the TT Landlord use Golden Promise as the base malt rather than MO and Wyeast West Yorkshire Ale yeast.

Let me know how the Pedigree turns out. Its still one of my favourite big brand beers.

Been in the FV for 2 1/2 weeks and it smells great. Think I should have added some gypsum to the mash though as north west water is really soft. May not get the sulphur notes that you get from a burton beer. I'll keep you posted.

Yeah, my water is soft as owt, but the quality is good after that scare last summer. That treatment works that had the problem is a mile from my house..!!

In the middle ages they never drank water as it was too dangerous so drank all their fluids as beer. To be on the safe side I think you should resurrect this medieval practice :thumb:

Between beer, tea and coffee, I'm almost there.

Might have to give the TT Landlord a go as West Yorkshire yeast (1469) is my house English strain

This book was where my boddingtons clone recipe came from. I found a number of others that were very different, but opted for this one and it came as close as I could have hoped to the original. Very nice it was. I did the landlord too but switched some hops, though still in the right ballpark. It's not bad but the most exciting thing I've made.

A lot of the bitter recipes are very similar in the book, and I suspect that the lack of specific yeast recommendations and the lack of subtlety of home brewing would mean they could start to get a bit samey after doing a few of them. Though it obviously has stouts, porters and milds too.

I suppose it depends what type of beer you like to drink. If you like American hop bombs then this is definitely not the book for you. I have found that the ones I have brewed have been very different from each other but I take your point about the book as a whole.
