I have just made

4 sainsburys RGJ (one held back for after vigorous activity)
1 cup strong tea
Juice of one lemon
600g sugar
250g raisins blitzed
Yeast nutrient
Yeast

Gives me a SG of 1.112.

Will be very interested to see what the yeast gets it down to and how it tastes at the end.

I think you might find that is overpowering, most juice wines are made with 2 litres of juice and a mug of strong black tea, the rest is water.

.

There is signs of fermentation already

Edit, might put it in a bigger bucket and add some water to extend it in that case. Any idea on quantity and should I do it now or later on in fermentation?

So about half juice half water I can add about 4l of water?

You could do that or see if you like it the way it is then add soda water when you drink it to take the edge off, if its too strong try 2 litres in each DJ next time.

Just ordered

youngs super wine yeast compound

Yeast Nutrient.

Pectolase.

Glycerine.

Got to give this a go bring on next weekend:D

WGJ is posh apparently. You can get it in waitroes as well as red grape juice in the UHT juice section. The also have merlot grape juice in the fresh section!

Glad to see merlot grape juice is back. I used it once before and, unsurprisingly, it makes good merlot wine! You can also use it in combination with cheaper rgj and sugar, which is exactly what the more expensive 'merlot' wine kits do.

I've just picked up a few cartons of white grape juice from Waitrose, I saw the merlot grape juice on sale, is it really possible to make a decent red wine from? Would two litres with the usual WOW additions be worth a go, or should I aim for a different recipe?

Thanks Chippytea, I know I can't get a red from the usual fruit juice method, I was wondering in what way Tony had used it

Thought I would bump an old thread as I posted something similar on another post.

Been a long time since I made wine. Really having trouble sourcing WGJ down here in Cornwall. Tried all the local supermarkets without success. Just checked our local Asda and even they don't stock it. Had no trouble in 20 years buying it but have travelled miles in the car looking for it.

Anybody know of any places that supply concentrate in bulk or any similar suppliers.

Cheers.

I had the same problem a few months back when trying to find white grape juice. Like you I tried al the usual supermarkets. However whilst visiting another torn I tried Waitrose and they stock it. At least they had plenty a few months back. Not had chance to go again since. http://www.waitrose.com/shop/Produc...ntial+Waitrose+pure+pressed+white+grape+juice

Going to have to make a journey for that Merlot juice.

Chippy out of interest how many camdens do you use from start to end when making wows. Trying to find the best balance, have an inkling that they do bleach anthrocynins.

I use one crushed campden when racking to the second DJ for degassing, clearing and stabilising.
