You're equating being a brewer with being in the Beatles? Strange analogy, but yeah I'd say that was just a job too. Being a musician gets romanticised but it IS just another job. Personally I don't think anyone deserves to get paid ridiculous money for any job, be it sportspeople, musicians, brewers or anyone else.

Blah blah...supermarket bilge...blah blah...the only snobbery I see is from some of the beer bloggers...

You mean apart from the snobbery you've just trotted out? I don't like Speckled Hen personally, but I don't look down on anyone who drinks it. When I buy beer rather than drinking my own I buy the kind of beer you've come across as liking but as I've said, I find it hard to justify the prices that are being charged and it worries me that these prices will put people off. Beer should be for everyone.

And since you asked, hipster wankery in action - http://www.rogue.com/rogue_beer/beard-beer/

Surely the market dictates the price. Craft Beer is a high demand item that is in short supply by its very nature. Magic Rock (for example) can brew up to 70,000 liters at a time. Compare that to InBev who have multiple breweries in multiple locations and you can see that supply is scares (comparatively). Demand for Magic Rock beer is high due to the high quality product so the price changed to reflect this supply and demand. If the demand wasn't so high then then the price wouldn't be so high, which in turn might make smaller operations much less tenable as businesses as margins would be much tighter.

This probably doesn't apply so much to people like Brewdog or Stone or other bigger craft breweries who have bigger capacity.

I suppose being in the Beatles was "just a job" too?

I think I'm going to need you to point out some of this "hipster wankery" and "artisan bull****" that these breweries are peddling, because from where I'm sitting, paying £2.50 for a can of Cannonball screams amazing value to me. If you're referring to Cloudwater DIPA coming in at about £4.95 a bottle, then I'm sorry, that still represents value for money to me. I'd much rather have one of those than spend the same on 2 bottles of Speckled Hen or whatever spermarket bilge you deem as better value.

The only snobbery I see is from some of the beer bloggers and Craft Beer Twitterati, but I try not to let that cloud my opinion.

The worst snobbery I see is from CAMRA and people who drink so-called "real ale"...even that name irritates me...it's like they've given themselves the authority to decide what is or isn't "real" beer.

I've loved both versions of Punk IPA, Goose Island, and Williams Bros Joker and Caesar Augustus. Eden mill's Shipwreck is lovely too.

However, hardly any other American style IPA I've tried has got me particularly excited and most of them I feel have very little in the way of hop aroma/flavour - it's just a lot of bitterness and not very much else to me.

Recently I've had 13 Guns (which I enjoyed but couldn't pick out much in the way of flavour) and Drygate (I picked out a bit more hop flavour).

However, I'm keen to get hold of some that might be my cup of tea. I've picked up a Fourpure Session IPA from Tesco this lunchtime because it lists the hops it uses, and there's a shop about 10mins walk from the office with a massive craft beer selection. I welcome any recommendations.

See what you have started MickDundee, next time just pick your own IPA you Hipster ........

Is this the second half or are we still in the first half after a long stoppage for injury?
All in all, its got a bit boring, after the promise of a good match at the beginning.:-?

I am a lover of both 'Real ale' and 'Craft beer' in equal measure and I'm generally not too precious about what some might view as higher than 'normal' pricing (if there is such a thing).

However, last night a pub local to me (Edinburgh) had the new Beavertown Tropigamma on at a whopping £5 per half pint. That did make me recoil a bit! :)

I started drinking ipa's about 18 months ago coming over from peroni and carlsberg xD I buy a few of the more expensive beers which I mix in with more modest price ipa's. These would include:

Magic rock - Highwire, cannonball
Cloudwater - Dipa
brewby numbers - 55-02 (amazing) 21-03
Beavertown - 8 ball, neckoil
Odysey brewing
And whatever the guy I buy them off recommends at the time of ordering.

The more modest priced Ipa's I get from M&S, these are Sierra Nevada IPA and Torpedo, Northern Monk IPA and Eternal (my favorite session ipa) then for bargain basement I get http://www.marksandspencer.com/american-pale-ale-case-of-24/p/p60083229?prevPage=plp when on offer buy two save 25% which works out at £1.15 a can.

I'm hoping my brews when I start will bring the cost of my habit down a bit xD

Not a bad beer amongst that lot. Eternal, especially, is such a good Session IPA.

Laginutas is lovely same with some Brewdogs, Beavertown which has been brought up all ready is gorgeous! Love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale... Not an IPA believe its an APA find in Co-Op, Tesco etc

The Redwell APA is a lovely drop, and Aldi have got it in at £1.29 a can at the moment!

Old thread resurrection I know but just had a bottle of Thornbridge Chiron.........phwooaaarrrrr! That is all.
Amarillo, Chinook, Cas ade and Columbus according to the label

I’d love to do a version...anyone got a recipe?

I’ve only ever had 2 Thornbridge beers (Jaipur and Tart) and been incredibly underwhelmed by both.

Jaipur is very similar to Punk, which is hardly surprising given the history. Unfortunately it's often the "safe" beers in a brewery's range that tend to end up on Supermarket shelves.

Morrison's in Dundee sells Thornbridge Chiron.

Here's my latest selection. Firstly, NΦgne Pale Ale. 6% and naturally conditioned from Grimstad, Norway. Secondly Belhaven's Twisted Thistle IPA. An American style IPA. 5.6% with Challenger, Cascade and Hersbrucker hops. Finally the trainspotters' tipple - Interrail Pale from the Trondheim, Norway, Microbrewery. Again naturally conditioned (is this standard for Norwegian amber beers?) and 4.7%. All excellent drinking at a price the equivalent of about £0.60 - 0.70 per bottle. Cheers!

There are absolutely shed loads of great IPA's out there. Guess I'm spoilt here in Leeds as we have some excellent independent craft beer retailers around. If you only have the high street supermarkets to go at, maybe an internet order is the way forward. There are so many beers I could recommend but the above have nailed some really good ones!

Is the hop house dear? do they carry cloudwater

Wold Top Brewery nr Scarborough do a fantastic IPA called Scarborough Fayre. As far as I know they're available in Tesco, but unsure if it's just locally.

I've noticed my local M & S has started to stock an ever increasing collection
