This reminds me of a case no too long ago where a bloke was accused of raping a woman he denied it but in the time leading up to the trial he lost his job luckily his wife stood by him and he was found not guilty yet the woman that accused him was not prosecuted i think that needs to change in all cases.

A woman who falsely claimed she was raped by a soldier after he "rejected her" has been jailed for five years.

Rebecca Palmer, 26, from Royal Wootton Bassett, made the allegations against a soldier based in Tidworth, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

The CPS said Palmer had "indulged in consensual sexual activity" with the victim, 22, and launched a "malicious campaign" after he rejected her.

She was found guilty of four offences of perverting the course of justice.

She also pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown Court to five offences of malicious communications and three offences of perverting the course of public justice.

Joanne Jakymec, chief crown prosecutor, said Palmer had sent "malicious communications" to both the victim and his family and "repeatedly made false allegations" including an allegation of rape.

'Fake friend profiles'

"Rebecca Palmer indulged in consensual sexual activity with the victim but on being rejected by him, embarked on a malicious campaign which led to him being arrested on more than one occasion and held in custody for periods of time," she said.

Ms Jakymec said Palmer had also "invented fake friend profiles and produced false correspondence hoping that these would be accepted as supportive evidence of her false claims".

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police, said Palmer's behaviour had been "completely unacceptable".

"Palmer became completely embroiled in her own web of lies and her appalling behaviour could really have a negative impact on other victims of rape or sexual assault who may choose not to report it to police for fear that they will not be believed," the spokesperson added. BBC.

I go swimming twice a week ( with SWMBO). I always find myself swimming as far away as I can get from other women, lest I get accused of invading their personal space - or worse..!

At 65 years old, bit sad really... :-?

I find beer a more interesting obsession these days

I can understand why you do it and its demonstrates how sad the world we now live in has become.

Last summer a young girl probably 6 years old tripped right outside my house and screamed in pain i could see through my window she had skinned her knees she had a friends with her but she didn't know what to do so guess what i did - nothing i wanted to go out and see if she was alright and comfort her but the fear of someone seeing me from down the street and coming to the wrong conclusion made me hesitate luckily my next door neighbour had heard her scream and was out moments after, i feel embarrassed admitting it here but that is the way the world has made normal caring people feel and its very sad.

I am going to play devils advocate here, and believe me my knee jerk reaction is to agree that proven false claims of rape should lead to prosecution...

The powers that be have to be VERY careful with things like this, not to create a climate where women are afraid to report a rape for fear of been prosecuted as a result. Kind of like the bad old days which are already making a come back where men would get away with rape "because the way she was dressed was asking for it", often followed by the stigma then attached to them of been sluts who wronged a man.

Start prosecuting women every time a man gets found not guilty (and it really should have gone to court before it's even considered imho), and it really will create a climate of women been afraid of reporting rapes, or men for that matter (men get raped too after all).

I do however feel that the media and employers need to quit it with the guilty until proven innocent ****. If a person is found guilty of rape, then yeah their life SHOULD come tumbling down, but until that guilty verdict is delivered this countries judicial system is based on innocent until proven guilty ffs...:nono: Quit punishing people who haven't yet been found guilty I say.

There are times when someone who's found 'not guilty' actually did the crime, but the prosecutor failed to prove it. Prosecuting the victim would be an additional miscarriage of justice.
But in blatant cases of the 'victim' lying prosecution should occur.

I meant in cases where there is no shadow of a doubt the victim was in fact not a victim and lied then prosecution should occur.

This type of thing really annoys me. If you have been accused of a crime and been proven "not guilty" then your accusor (sp) must be held responsible for their accusations. This also applies to the CPS. If the "Crown" has deemed it nessacary(sp) to prosicute you, and you are proven innocent, then somone must be responsible.

Lots of scope for variable conditions, margins and balance. Difficult to call.

Until you view the reality - false accusations of rape or domestic violence are rare. The media, falsely, overstating the "cry rape" angle probably has an adverse effect on justice.

Why would the media do that?

There is rarely any evidence or witnesses in this so its hard in most cases to prove anything. Years ago I new a guy in the police force in Croydon and he said so much of there time was taken up with women who falsely accused people of rape because they cheated on there boyfriends after going to a nightclub but they would back down as soon as the police said they would look at CCTV or something which would show there stories at least wouldn't fully line up. As it never got as far as prosecution I don't think that this would ever come up on any statistics.

Excuse my lefty showing...

Because the media is owned and controlled by members of the 1% elite, for who a culture of blame and fear distracts the masses from looking at REAL problems effecting this country perhaps? It also encourage people to shift their politics to the right, as this is the side that "promotes" law and order over individual freedom and civil rights.

Scare the masses enough and they let you literally get away with murder....

Oh, and fearmongering also sells papers on the most basic level. Nobody wants to read about nice things happening after all...

Exactly my (rhetorical) point. :thumb:

There is a world of difference between 'proven "not guilty"' and 'not proven "guilty"' ... and given that the onus is on the prosecution to prove guilt rather than the defence proving innocence, I would suggest that most 'not guilty' verdicts are a result of the latter
