Sounds good though👍,I’ve never tried Progress hops,I’ve only ever brewed two Canadian Blondes
One was superb
One was horrendous although chances are it was my fault

I had a couple of coopers Canadian blond last night after bottling a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely lovely.

One can, plus 500g of dme boiled for 15 minutes with some progress hops(40g I think) It is supposed to be 1kg enhancer but I wanted a session guzzler for the long festive drinking days.

Very nice I have to say. No trace of twang at all. I done the same kit recently as per the instructions and there was a definite twang to it.

I've always found though that adding hops to kits, either as above, dry hopping or hop teas do get rid of the twang and make a really nice beer.
What volume did you brew it to and what abv did it end up Ciaran?

23l and off the top if my head 4ish. Exactly what I was after. I know it's only a small tweak but it has turned out a really good beer. Not even two weeks in the bottle. Lovely and smooth, great head and lacing on it.

That's my second and that first was good. Very average but still good.
They were leftover from my first AG which was a very quick flick through a book in the LHBS to get a recipe. They're i dont know mild? Low AA as well

Surprised you got 4% abv only using 500 gram of dme unless you got the FG down very close to 1000 as the OG wouldn't be very high to start with I would have thought going on my records

1.037 to 1.005 so 4.2 .

What's a typical fg in general using an ale yeast? I find that most of my brews whether kit or AG get down to between 3 and 5.

It all depends on your OG really. A general rule of thumb is the lower the OG the lower the FG (and the same for higher the OG the higher the FG).
You really need to look at the attenuation of the yeast. Most ale yeast seems to be between 75% and 80%, but for whatever reason more dried yeast seem to be closer to the 80% rather than the 75% (although there are exceptions of course).

You done well to get it down to 1005 m8

I didn't really do much to be honest. It was the kit yeast, it started very slow because I overdone the cold water. Apart from that it sat there for 4 weeks and got batch primed and bottled.

The yeasts ive been using have advertised 70-80. Ive never actually bothered working out the final attenuation. I think I'll go back and do that actually.

Last brew and next brew are getting mashed at the 70c range. Just to see if that has an impact on the FG. Ive only done four brews and the strike calculators keep hitting me a bit low. So they've been in the low 60s apart from the last one. I aimed for 70 and over adjusted the calculator. About a litre of cold brought it down and it sat there happily for near 90minutes I suppose.

I've never mashed that high but I have gone the other way and mashed at 64C for 90mins. I achieved 94% attenution with notty (although I think 5% table sugar would have helped that low attenuation)

Higher attenuation seems to be the desired outcome for most people. I'm the opposite really, in that I'd rather a lower ABV due to my ability to guzzle paired with my inability to stop guzzling.

I do like a nice strong beer though. I should try to sit back relax and sip though.

I'm the same. I'm in the process of developing my house bitter. It's 3.5%, so an Ordinary Bitter. I really like low abv session beers, although I do like the odd stronger (about 5%-6%) beer
