Recommended Thermometers

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a decent but reasonably priced thermometer for testing the temp of the wort.
I will be starting my Young's American Oaked Rum Ale this weekend, and think this will be helpful.

I'm quite chuffed with my Inkbird, cheaper and also convenient is the Topelek, but you might go for a pair of alcohol thermometers. A pair, so you can take 2 measurements, and have at least a spare.

ETI make the most reasonably priced, calibrated thermometers and they usually have offers. For example. Remember what you're paying for here is an actual human to physically calibrate the instrument before it's sent out to you. Uncalibrated digital thermometers just give you a very clear view of the wrong temperature.

Another vote for the Thermapen, mine gets used quite a bit in the kitchen and on the BBQ as well as for brewing.

I've had 3 digital thermometers die this year because they always get water in them so I'd suggest something with an external probe.

I agree, I have ETI's Therma 1T with the probe in that linked image. I didn't recommend it in this thread because I think many would baulk at the price but for me it'll be the only thermometer I ever need to buy and it can be sent back for recalibration every few years to compensate for drift due to aging.

I use one similar to this

plus a liquid in glass thermometer I have had for years.
I also use an ITC308.
However they all have a small calibration error, as will most reasonably priced thermometers, but that doesn't cause me any concern, since I don't feel the need to work to standards akin to those expected by the National Physical Laboratory.

FANTAST cooking thermometer from IKEA, I've had it 2 years, still on the same single AAA battery, probe lead is water proof, it's good from -10 to 110. £7.50
