B&m are selling kits for 7.99 each but they're only for 10 litres. Has anybody given these a go? Can i pad them out with anything to make them 25 litres for my fermentation bucket?

Padding them out will make the beer really watery.

You could get two and make 20l batch.
This

Interesting to know B&M have started stocking homebrew stuff. I don’t do kits but if they sell FVs etc it might be worth a look.

I was in a B&M yesterday and saw the bottles, FV (10 litre I think) and such like but did not notice any kits. There was a box that said you could make beer but pretty sure it said it was ready within 24 hours....

That’s handy - I’ve been thinking about doing a small batch sour/lambic for ages but have been put off by the price of demi johns for what is effectively a one-off project.

24 hours - magic beer!

Worth a look at their website, 12 brown 500cc swingtop bottles for under£10 seems ok. And the beer kits look like a rebranded Mangrove Jack box.
Pity they don't sell grain :cheers7:

Just been on the website, looks like it’s The Range” stuff rebranded. FV, thermometer, syphon and sanitiser for a tenner looks decent value.

Edit - just been on the B&M and The Range websites and it looks like the same stuff but cheaper. Swing top bottles £9.99 compared to £12.99 in the Range, FV starter kit £9.99 compared to £19.99 (although athe Range version has a plastic paddle which the B&M one doesn’t seem to). Kits seem the same but half the size - £7.99 for 10L compared to £17.99 for 20L so still cheaper to get 2 B&M kits than 1 from The Range.

Anyone know if the wort is the same concentration as canned stuff because you get 1.4kg, almost as much as a standard can but for less than half the final amount. Need to see how much sugar they say to add. The real ale, lager and IPA are 4.2%, 4.4% and 5.6%. And it says add hops, wonder if it's an extract or dry hop.

Just bought a real ale and an American ipa.
They're made at the same place as mangrove jack (Ellesmere Port).
There's a nitrogen or co2 flushed pack of pellets for dry hopping in each kit. The real ale contains 900g of liquid extract and a 500g pack of dextrose to take it to its target gravity. The ipa has 1.25kg of extract plus the same 500g of dextrose as the real ale.

Bargain for £8 I'd say

Cheers. Tom

I went to one of my 3 local B&Ms yesterday and they had nothing so I left with only a massive bag of cat litter. If I have time this week I’ll pop to the one in Dundee City centre and see if they have anything.

My Lord
I'll check my one this morning
I need to fit a quick brew in to keep up with volume consumption

Hope they have the IPA one what a steal!

Any details on the yeast? (Guessing a 6g silver pack)

I was going to suggest adding two cans of holland barret extract but I think for this price and with the extra ingredients you may as well get two
Like 7618 suggests
But id only take it to 20 litres otherwise it may be a below 4% ABV and less body

I went into the range yesterday and got the 20l for 12.99

I presume that's not including the additional dextrose though? I know it's not mega expensive but it's included in the b&m kits

Cheers. Tom
No it doesn't but I had some lying around so it didn't matter. I would say that if the b&m kits come with everything then it's definitely a bargain. May try then next.

This is a steal
Bought the IPA kit as already mentioned 1.25kg extract and 500g dextrose including a 20gram pack of hops and a silver pack of yeast that I'm assuming is around 5gram which is ideal for a small batch anyway
It must be West coast as its saying not to add above 25 c

Now when you think wilko are selling theyre one can kits for a third more (250grams more extract to the IPA) you have to say this is great value and you'd still be a pound better'off buying an additional tin of extract from H&B

I won't swap the yeast until I've tried it If it's like the coopers I'll be more than happy
