I have the honour of judging June's competition which is the dark beers category.

Posting this slightly early because I am moving house in Friday so will have limited time to access the forum.

Pm me for my details. Anyone with my current address can discard that.

I will be getting mine bottled tomorrow and sent out ASAP.

I’ve been delayed as I’ve been struck down with a bloody summer cold/flu/bug thing.

I mean wtf????

I was really up for this to get some feedback but my stout turned out waaay overcarbed :( was gonna send one anyway with instructions to chill well but I found one with the bottom blown out in my garage so decided post wasn't a good idea!

Good luck to the rest :cheers7:

Thank you @dan125, @Hoddy and @stigman For your entries.

A dark beer comp and they are all hoppy beers. The tasting is going to be fun. Judging 3 beers against each other will be hard.

After a bit of postal issues i will finally be judging tonight

Tasting is over

3 great beers. All different. I think judging in this new format is difficult. Without any style guide I have marked each one against how I thought it should be as per it's style as described by the sender.

So in 2nd place is ....
@stigman with a black neipa

Aroma 5/12
Reading the description of the recipe I was expecting a big aroma hit. I didn't get much citrus flavours and instead I got tank herbal aroma. This wasn't a negative but more unexpected for style.

Appearance 3/3
Dark as night with a good head that stayed.

Flavour 10/20
Don't think a dark neipa work a for me. Didn't know what to expect with this one. Not sure the hop/malt balance works, unless there was something else. The warmer it got the more I liked it.

Mouthfeel 4/5
Nice and smooth, as you would expect with a neipa

Overall
A totally new style for me. It went down well but as mentioned expected a hop bomb neipa. Sorry if it's comes across negative. It was a nice beer and my wife, the co judge got more citrus flavour and not that herbal aroma/Flavour that I experienced. Well done and once I get brewing again I will return a bottle to you.
