Anyone else tried the Santa Gose Down Under? It was disgusting. I threw it down the sink which, for me, is quite an achievement.

Yep, I received a bottle of Santa Gose Down Under as part of my BeerHawk advent calendar, the mere thought of it still gives me the shudders, it was absolutely rank. Like you it ended up down the sink.

It tasted like they were trying to make a gose with bacteria and some funky yeast, but ended up with loads of plastic/smokey phenolic aromas, so tried to mask it by brewing a smoked beer, blending them together and pretending that was what they wanted all along. Complete clash of flavours. Sour, salt, smokey, spice and citrus do not belong together, especially when as out of balance as that one.

funny you should say that, I know a brewery where the wrong yeast was supplied and said yeast was used before the mistake was realised. They called it a 'limited edition'.

I'm sure it happens more than we can imagine. I remember having one a while ago called "****, the Christmas tree is on fire". I suspect it was suppose to be a stout but they scorched it, so pretended it was supposed to be smokey and a bit acrid from the beginning.

I really liked the gose, I enjoy sour beers though and thought the Smoked flavour wasn't overpowering.. hated the Pub Beer Lager and the Kilt Lifter though.

I had that and thought it was a beaut, certainly didn't taste scorched to me!

I've had 4 of these cases over the last couple of months, and have had several more before. Usually I'm a bit disappointed if there's loads of lagers (as there has been in the recent 4) but the hot weather has suited them. I like the 'Toasted Lager' by Blue Point.

I like Goses and sour beer in general so I don't mind the Santa Gose Down Under.

Getting a bit bored of Elf Juice now though. How much of this did they have in stock?!

Looks like you've done well, I had a mixed case of 30 a while back and nearly half of them were terrible or far too strong!

My case was pretty disappointing. Quite a few very bland lagers, a couple of pales that were well past their best and a couple of appalling spiced Christmas ales. Won't be bothering again.
