So had an old tin of brewbuddy Lager that had just gone out of date, so decided it was time to get it made up.

Batch size: 23 litres

Additions: 1kg Muntons brew enhancer + 370g Meridian barley malt. Will be adding 3 limes worth of peel at about 10 days.

Yeast: CML California common

Water: Tesco everyday value/Ashbeck

Hops: 25g Hallertaue Hersbrucker (at 10 days)

OG: 1040

Pitching Temp: 20.3C

Usual way of making using 2 1/2 litres of boiling/hot water used to dissolve the brew enhancer and wash can out. Then used chilled bottled water to bring the temp down ready to pitch. Lots of stirring!

What is it with the Ashbeck water? Is it softer, harder, tastier, cheaper?
I had some ashbeck left over from when our water was turned off last week, due to a leak. Usually I use the value stuff at 17p per 2 litre bottle. I find for the money its easier to chill it and use and I know its not got any nasties in it.

Have you ever added peel during fermentation before? I did it recently and unless it ages out it's baaaad. I did a jaffa cake beer and had peel in the boil, wort tasted lovely chocolate orange, then it died off during fermentation so I stuck a load of peel in and man alive it tasted like kissing an Oompa-Loompa with a mouth full of orange bubble bath in a spray tan salon lit with orange scented candles.

It'll be ready to try in a few weeks and I'm not saying it'll be wrong but at bottling - it was all out wrong.

Nope not tried it before. I always try to sift through the internet to find out more info, but I like to try things for myself to believe it. A few people said to soak it in vodka beforehand to sterilise it and then chuck the whole lot in!

This one has had about 4 months in the bottle now and ultimately I don't really like it. That's not to say its undrinkable, some people will probably love it, but I find its a bit too 'home brewey' Australianish lager (not really refreshing). The lime flavour comes through, but doesn't over power, other than that it a generic home brew lager taste and look. Hops were a waste of time.

Wouldn't bother with this one again, will be dishing this out at chrimbo to get shot of it.
