US brewing company changing definition of craft brewing

Without breaking any forum rules I hope. They are changing the rules around craft brewing.

With the legality of cannabis and it's derivatives in the US and Canada changing. Many craft brewers are now using THC or CBD in their brewing process.

Hear me out....

As many probably know. Hops and cannabis are in the same 'family' of plants.

So I'm lead to believe.

So are these brewing companies breaking the rules?

The UK has now legalised certain forms of medicinal cannabis for exceptional cases.

I even read the other day that the UK is one of the world's biggest producers of pharmaceutical grade cannabis for export to the US, Canada and other countries that allow research and medicinal use.

As for discussion on the Forum, may I suggest a degree of discretion, given that there is this stigma around illegality amongst much of the membership? And more specifically the ownership of the Forum?

I was getting more along the lines of cannabis being in the same plant group as hops. Other than what people will, wont or want to smoke.

Im aware of discretion. I was suggesting it purely in the botanical sense. That being that hops and cannabis are very closely related.

There's a beer. Titanic brew I think it is. That to me smells strongly of weed. So much so that when I opened a bottle at my mother's house she accused me of bringing that 'waky baccy' into her house.

Wasn't until she sniffed the bottle of beer that she was satisfied that it was the beer not my pockets.

The UK version on sale to the public is a gimmick. It doesn't contain any active ingredients. Hence why it's sold in high street shops and people get stopped at customs for trying to import the real thing.

Anyway back to brewing.

I Googled beer and weed. And apart from the trend i was originally talking about. Quite a few people have asked if certain hops smell like cannabis. Anyone else had this.

One I read said that Stella smelt like weed. Ha ha ha. I think this just the party you were at pal.

Hopping Hare by Badger stinks to high heavens of weed, it's so incredibly dank (another word for smells like weed) it's bonkers!

As to mixing weed and beer, uhm, my understanding is that mixing booze and weed tend to lead to feeling rather unwell rather quickly... Totally talking from just things I've heard here naturally, honestly I am.... I don't recommend it...

All I am going to say is, I was a university student once....

And it's under review by the home office. Scientist now say that there is THC in every CBD product because you can't truly eliminate it all, therefore being technically illegal. The home office are reviewing this evidence and looking at stopping the sale of it, especially in Holland and Barrett

I think craft beer is one of those things which means something slightly different to each person. Some wouldn't consider Brewdog "craft" anymore, I've heard others cal Greene King IPA craft. It often gets confused with "microbrewery", which in UK law has a definition: <60,000 hectolitres I believe. But that's more tax related.

That American brewery from the article can define craft if it wants, I guess it's only relevant to that trade group, and I can understand: they want to create a trade group of many small companies to appear as a bigger company for more power.

If some people wanna put cannabis in their beer I don't see why not. We don't live in a reinheitsgebot and it's another way of experimenting with slightly different ingredients, like orange peel, cocoa nibs, bacon etc. EDIT: assuming it's legal!
