A large fire has broken out at the new The Ivy restaurant in Manchester.

It is thought the fire in the three-storey building on Hardman Square in the city centre started from a patio heater on an outdoor terrace.

Posts on social media showed a fire burning through the roof of the building. Fire crews said it was out by 18:20 GMT.

The restaurant, which opened in November, is run by Caprice Holdings Ltd, which runs London's The Ivy.

Was in wether spoons in town a while back and watched the smokers filling up one of those ash trays that they have screwed to the wall outside...then watched as it burst into flames and was amazed how people just stood there...the chap from behind the bar came out eventually and slung a bucket of water at it.

At least nobody was prepared to waste a pint by chucking one at it!

Shame really, 'cos a lot of what Weatherspoons serve as "beer" tastes like dishwater anyway!
