How do you de-ice your car windows.

I knew there would be at least one Mick, why bother? Just to out with some warm water, a tin of de icer or press the heated screen button. I presume you also have to take the thing back in the house after aswell. So it's not a vem saving any time in the morning.

Blowers on full, heater on full, aircon on. Quick whizz round with the scraper and job done. Unfortunately skoda have never offered a heated windscreen for my favourite model.

i used to have a pickup,and a canister type blow lamp,3 minute burn,cab was warm,i was warm,ice gone.
a good start to the day.

But when I have to drive then barely warm water is the quickest option. Will add salt though as that's a sound idea

I just bung it in a bin bag in the boot. I don’t have a proper heated windscreen, just the blower so it would take ages and de-icer just causes the car to steam up.

Get the bag out of the boot, bung the screen thing in it and off you go.

I just slump down in the seat so it must look to others (if they could see thru' the windows!) like a bearded infant is driving, and peer thru' the tiny but ever-growing gap at the bottom of the screen where the frost is melting. Can't see a goddamn thing but I can't at the best of times. It's an age thing you know. My eyes need defrosting too.

The salt in the wam water trick works as usually the side windows freeze again when not using it.

I drove into the kerb in the works car park - the mota bounced back 6 feet. Whatever, I just sat there looking more gormless than usual until the ice melted before carrying on my way. Beats being stood in the cold developing hypothermia with icicle fingers and scraper etc.

Its been a lovely sunny day here today. As I didn't need the car until later I rolled it down the driveway until it was in full sunshine.

I use a kettle of boiling water as it clears the inside as well, I started 20ish years ago when there was something on the radio about it and someone in Scotland phoned in and said everone round them did it and it never caused a problem. A few years ago I did a bit of research and found 2 points 1 windscreens don't have thermal expansion issues so will not shatter from it 2 the problem can be water quickly refreezing in a small crack which may not be visible causing a big crack so using hotter water that warms the whole screen is better than slightly warm water but the salt mentioned should also help. So its my belief that the hotter the water the better.

Sometimes I can't stand the sight of my wife pathetically scraping her windows on a cold morning, as she makes a right hash of it! She's a stunningly bright, clever woman but practicalities are not her strong suite!
So.... I fill a 2 litre plastic jug with hot water from the kitchen tap, adjust it down with a touch of cold water, and slowly pour it over the front and rear and side screens whilst she sits in. Job done in seconds.
The only downside....... is if it's truly cold and below freezing all day, then the water that runs off onto the drive freezes over solid. If it's a strong cold spell, then the spray de-icer goes on about 10 mins before departure and makes scraping off much easier.

I wonder if the windscreens cracking comes form when they were toughened glass as opposed to the laminated glass used now now ?
I was always told it was a definite no no by my Dad.

I fill one of those press and seal type bags with warm water from the tap and then rub it over the screen. This melts the ice and keeps your hands warm at the same time.
