Same as the others have said, the only change I'll make is being prepared this time and making something for the occasion rather than what I had in stock.

Ditto!

As this is my first year brewing, I never appreciated that I'd need a lot of beer on at Xmas, and that meant pre-planning... Next year I'll start my Xmas brewing in October so all kegs are full and I've plenty of bottled beers to take round to houses.

Your first year brewing?! Not one to do things in half measure are you ! :hat:

I'm new here and would love to participate in something like this. Sounds like what you've got going is working a treat. Only suggestion I can make seeing it from the outside, would be to take people's "not for me styles" or "must avoid due to allergies/intolerances etc"

How do I sign up to get involved?

Thanks for the comment. Yeah allergies/intolerance info is definitely something that can be included without any issue.

Regarding the "not for me" styles though, I personally think it's good to try various examples from time to time of styles you don't generally like, perhaps you just haven't had the right one? I suppose if there's a style that you really dislike then it could be arranged, but it'd be a right ball ache to organise if everyone did it.

Keep an eye out for the Secret Santa Swap thread around the start of November and just add your name to the list athumb..

If you can't wait till then there are plenty of members who are always up for a bottle swap, or there's the monthly competitions if you'd like some constructive feedback.

I was just making a suggestion for those members that can't try certain types. Me personally, I'll try anything. I like different styles and love to try something new. November gives me chance to get some brewing done as I've just got back into the hobby. I'll keep an eye out for the secret Santa nearer the time

You could have categories. Even basic, dark, light, sour and people can say if they prefer not to have one of those

In theory, yes. But I'm wondering, are people on this forum really that selective about the beers they drink? And given it seemed about 50% of the swap was comprised of some sort of strong stout, I'm not sure there would be a whole load of flexibility.

Looks like we missed the opportunity for a secret Easter Bunny swap.

But, the purpose to my post... just thinking about how there were so many winter styles swapped in the Secret Santa, how about a summer swap too?

Sounds like a plan. A chance to swap some potential lighter ales and lagers etc.

If there are enough participants, maybe even a wine or cider swap

A summer swap is a great idea - takes a lot of organising though

I sent someone a beer that didn't drink the style so gave it away.....

Not sure if this thread is dead but thought of something. Firstly I think it's done fine as many others have mentioned, but if there is a need to make it different:

Could do a broad or specific style, sort of how the monthly competitions are based, and include in those imperial, smash, clone etc. If announced around now it would give plenty of time to brew.

Perhaps it could be split into some vague styles where participants can say "I want to be in the stout category" or "I want to be in the American ale category" so people can choose a style they like. Maybe even submit a beer in one category and receive from another if it doesn't get too complicated.
