As detailed in my earlier post, "King Keg Kock up", a day or so after siphoning my brew from my FV into my King Keg I realised it was weeping around the tap and I had to get in there and reposition the gasket ( had put it on the inside like a div). Stopped the weeping, but after a few days still zero pressure in the keg. Decided to try to pressurise it with a bulb and see if I could hear any leakage.

Sure enough, it comes hissing out, finally traced it to the safety release, which seems to just let it all out (you can hear it when the room is quiet, even after the bulk of the pressure has gone). Tested it again yesterday morning, back to 0psi. Changed the lid, re-primed, and now pressure is building nicely. Faulty lid is being replaced, so no harm done there.

On a plus note, beer still smells and tastes like beer, so hopefully no infection from sticking my hand in there last weekend; did clean and sanitise my hand, but hands do have a lot of nooks and crannies to harbour nasties!

As this is my first beer brew (started off with wine a year or so ago), fingers crossed all will be well!

As the beer is fermented, luck should be on your side! I had a keg many years ago for the "convenience" - ha, ha!

Now it’s sorted, I reckon it’ll be fine. Replacement for the knackered lid is on the way, and what I’m using now will do just fine!

There should be a little rubber band covering a hole on the safety release, these can slip or degrade: is it a new keg? The bands need replacing regularly.
Not a new keg, but a replacement lid, with a stainless valve. The rubber bit is hidden under a metal ring that has a hole in it, and it's there the pressure escapes. Vendor is sending another, with a postage paid packet to return the faulty one in. Luckily I have another keg - even got a gauge fitted.

Even a decent lid needs cranking down a bit to secure a good seal...

The s30 is the biggest problem though... The blow off feature (a poxy rubber band!) is terrible and mine never held more than 3-4psi because of it. Best thing to do it block that up and fit a pressure gauge.

Works a treat after a few mods!

Mine has a gauge fitted, and is holding pressure like a champ now. Lid just tightened, not too much.

If anything, I fear it may be too fizzy if the first priming charge hadn’t all gone when I added the second!

I've found with mine it tends to sit around 10-11psi throughout secondary fermentation...

Every time I've worried about the pressure and let a little co2 out it quickly returns to this same pressure and doesn't seem to increase much over it.

I don't worry about it any more and it's definitely not too fizzy provided you've added the correct amount of priming sugar.

I did vent it a couple more times. I suspect there was still some sugar from the first failed priming. Justbtransferred it to my cold garage, so hopefully will simply condition nicely now, but who knows? :beer1:

Should it spring a leak in there it'll be annoying but will do little harm!

Got a Youngs AIPA on order to get going in the meantime!
