Not bothered about the marathon cos it doesn't affect me, but tomorrow's Tour de bleedin' Yorkshire certainly does... the only road out of our works will be closed for an hour either side of 2pm - the time I clock off. Gaffers won't let us go early and I don't wanna stay over. What's gonna give? These selfish, lycra-clad miscreants ought to get a grip, no-one is interested.

All the Wiggins wannabees will be lining the route in their skin tight Lycra. sick...

I'm a cyclist, but I absolutely refuse to be a "kit-******" and I refuse to wear lycra and I absolutely refuse to wear anything with a bloody sponsors logo on it. Pros get money from sponsors, I don't see why I have to PAY to wear the same bloody sponsors!!!
And I don't watch it on the telly either, bunch of junkies pretending to be athletes.

" Oh I need a super banned steroid so I can compete at top level due to asthma".
Ermmmm
I'm a tall lanky dude, does that mean I can take shed loads of drugs so I can be a good 100m sprinter?

The banned steroid of which you speak was not exactly performance enhancing! Besides, they are by far the most tested athletes in the world. It's fair to say that there used to be a widespread problem, but it is an entirely different landscape now. Pro cyclists are amongst the fittest athletes in the world.

Are there not enough cycle paths in Yorkshire already to enable the event without having to close roads?
Just put up signs saying of the event and give way to cyclists on that day.

What I don't get is our council spending untold millions on constructing cycle paths on all major trunk roads and dedicated cycle paths in addition to normal pavements (which now make them wider than the road in some places), then come up with signs like these in some areas -

- So if it is legal to cycle on the pavement in these areas......then why spend all our money on useless cycle paths in the first place ?

Lol! Have you seen the size of the peloton? And last time I checked there weren't many cycle paths in the Pennines!
There are plenty of scientific studies that have proven that investment in cycling infrastructure brings economic benefits many times that of the initial investment, in things such as reduced healthcare costs, and lack of CO2 emissions.
And whilst you claim that cycle paths are 'useless', I'm sure you are also in the camp of 'bloody cyclists don't pay any road tax...why should they be allowed on the roads?"

Where I live there are many miles of pavement where you hardly see a pedestrian these could be shared safely with cyclists but are not as its illegal so they ride on the busy A590 causing huge tailbacks in some areas.

I'm just saying you should be allowed to cycle on the pavement or the road if it is safe to do so. We now have a ridiculous situation of cyclists using the cycle paths which cross roads - and have to dismount to use a pedestrian crossing of the road - which they are legally allowed to cycle on ?

In very busy traffic or over bridges it would be safer to use the pavement anyhow, and would often mean you wouldn't be held up with traffic lights. If they did collide with anyone - then it is an assault and should be treated as such.
Road tax hasn't been used for road maintenance for years, but I would like to see cyclists contribute towards the upkeep of cycle paths - just to keep it fair.

So anyway, I snuck out of work 15 mins early without telling anyone. They were farting around preparing to shut the road just as I went past. That's that problem successfully avoided then, whilst the suckers left at work will have no choice but to stay until half past three or summat. Idiots.

Get back to work, you part-time idling waster!!!

The kid on the sign fell off her bike and started to cry, so dad held her hand and they walked away from the bike. Now the reason she fell off it was the bike was clearly too big for her, it was her brothers old bike (note the cross bar). Now why do the powers that be need to advertise this tale up and down the country? asad.

All you grumpy bug*ers are going to give us old, beardy, homebrewing farts a bad reputation. If we all stopped all the things we hated, no-one would be able to do anything! I would like to ban children, kids, teenagers, cars playing the radio with the windows open, noisy lawn mowers, strimmers, football, celebrities, Simon Cowell, politicians - blah-blah-blah...................

disgusted, Tonbridge Wells :laugh8:
