Hello everyone,
some public service broadcasting now....

I had an e.mail today from purportedly my broadband supplier (Talktalk) which seemed to be giving me a refund as they had overcharged me or realised that big business should help out the little guy or something like that.
It was from "[email protected]" where you clicked on the (official looking) link they provided, only to find you in a "Talktalk" lookalike page where you had to confirm the bank account you had to put the refund to... I came to my senses half way through this and actually contacted Talk Talk directly form my own log in page....they confirmed via a "live chat" session that it was definitely a scam.....

Beware !!

I have seen scams from Apple , PayPal & others , best approach is not to click any e-mail based links

I had one of those, and was immediately suspicious because TalkTalk are unlikely to give you any money back asad.
Next noticed that the email was *.net not *.com as used by TalkTalk.
Confirmed by TalkTalk that it was a hoax.
But I have reported it. Every time I get one of these I report them. Doing that ever so slightly increases the chances of catching the ba****ds.

I got one yesterday from the teevee licence people, saying there was a problem with my direct debit, click this link to rectify etc. Load of cobblers cos I don't pay the damn thing by any means.

Had a 'phone call from Jonathan - in India somewhere saying he was from BT and wanted to change my Router settings for an upgrade, as mine was about to expire and would soon be cut off.
I realised that this would eventually lead to access to it via passwords etc, so I took my time finding my phone and finding the charger for it until he got fed up and hung up. Still, 15 minutes of his time isn't bad going.

The best advice I was given was to treat all phone calls recieved from India as scams. If you're bank, phone provider, insurance company etc. needs to make marketing calls to you, let them do it from the UK.

I've received every scam under the sun. When they were trying the industrial hearing loss one a few years back I would put a piezo transducer that produced a loud high pitched tone, against the mouthpiece of my phone and gave it full power. I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall of the call centre and watched him jump and rip his headset off.

Just checked the junk filter of my emails, I have had the Argos one three times in the last week

In my experience, you were extraordinary lucky to be able to get through to TalkTalk at all!

We've also had the BT phone call saying our phone and Internet would be cut off if we didn't press 1 etc. The thing is we're on virgin so no BT line.

My nan is on Talktalk and had several calls Wednesday saying she was going to get cut off.. thankfully she hung up but she was so confused by it all.. I told her to hang up on anymore in the future

I gave up on phone support years ago (not that I have had to contact them often) as the language barrier (Cumbria accent) was too much of a hurdle to overcome so I now use live chat if I need to contact them as you can rake screen shots of the conversation as a back up.

I keep getting calls from the "Inland Revenue", telling me that an arrest warrant has been issued in my name!
I suspect they don't realise it's now called HMRC...

Smoke alarm test button. Get a chair while talking to 'Henry' from Microsoft Mumbai, hold the phone against the smoke alarm and push the test button. If 'Henry' doesn't hang up, try again.

SWMBO has a nice one, tell the person on the phone you need to turn the hot tap in the kitchen off and you will only be a minute then put the phone on the shelf and carry on doing what you were before the **** interrupted, they are never there when you go back to put the phone on the base station 10 minutes later. wink...

Got a email from the local police talktalk refund scam. Last week's watcdog highlighted the fact that some taltalk customers data was still exposed online so I am not surprised by the scams. It's about time talktalk we're once again taken to tasks about this.
