As my Father’s Day present, “my kids” (actually SWMBO) bought me a new set of Spieglau glasses and they seem to be much improved from my original set (which all bar the lager glass smashed). It’s a different set (stout, American Wheat/Belgian Wit, IPA and “barrel aged” which is a tulip) and I’m really impressed.

For starters they are all around the 500ml mark which makes using them for my homebrew easier and less wasteful. They are also much thicker than my old ones (they don’t feel like they’ll smash in my hand, or by the brush of a cat’s tail - both were actual ways my old ones were broken) and the box says they are dishwasher safe, which the previous ones didn’t say.

Here’s my IPA glass after drinking a few mouthfuls of Brut IPA:

Nice! Wish you well to use them. I got a set: IPA, wheat & stout glasses, they all broke very quickly. Hopefully these will last longer.

Seriously, these ones are about twice as thick as my last lot, the base on the tulip is proper thick.

Both my "barrel-aged" tulips broke, think they both toppled over in the dishwasher rack due to the stem/base making them top heavy when upside down. I'm pretty sure the old one were dishwasher safe too. I've still got the 2 IPA and 4 Stout glasses, the stout ones get used as a general glass as it's slightly bigger and easier to clean since it doesn't narrow as much as the IPA glass.

With these improvements I might get a couple more tulips.

You should have a look at https://www.drinkstuff.com. They've got everything you can think of. The Durobor range are particularly high quality with very thick glass. They don't often sell in single units though.

That’s interesting. I recently lost my “big bowl wheat” beer glass to a break. It’s last 1.5 yrs and I’m amazed at that given how wafer thin it feels. Amazingly my two others from the 3 glass set are still going.

Where did you get this thicker set? Do you have a link? I think I got mine via amazon.

One of the main reasons, if not the main reason, for them being really thin in the first place is that it meant the beer temperature would not rise as quickly in the glass whilst drinking it. With the new versions you may have to drink faster wink...

This was via Amazon AFAIK. It might be the same set as yours, but they are definitely thicker than my old set (which was 3 years old)

my stout glass broke today literally rubbed with a pair of joggers and it fell on its side and smashed, they are so thin so glad to see they have thickened them up.

I’m confused. I’m gonna have to buy some of these to see if they are actually thicker. I thought mine are pretty wager thin but functional. Thicker wouldn’t be worse. Nor would the same again.
