Btw they have buckets of invert sugar syrup which I thought looked pretty interesting. I considered trying them but I was put off by the idea of contamination, though a squirt of co2 as you close the tub would probably do the trick.

A 2Kg bag of sucrose is £1.10 in Morrison that's 55p a kilo. A 1Kg is 69p in Tesco. There's no advantage in using dextrose which is simply an optical isomer of glucose. Sucrose "inverts" to glucose and fructose by boiling with just a tad of citric acid, or the yeast will invert it as it produces the enzyme invertase. Once fructose, glucose or dextrose (or maltose for that matter) are fermented, it's exactly the same ethyl alcohol which is produced. Don't waste your money would be my advice.

Make your own invert syrup. Plenty of 'how to' vids on Youtube. Use table sugar, water and citric or tartaric or lemon juice. It's simialr to golden syrup without the initial sugar caramelisation.

I like making Golden Syrup. It's easy and quite nice to watch the caramelisation process. If you like, you can even make a darker pseudo "candi-syrup" much darker to add to Belgian recipes that call for dark candi-sugar.

I do most of the cooking "chez Slid" and enjoy that sort of stuff in the same way that I like making my beer.

I'm sure there are more than enough threads in which you can share your opinion, and if there aren't you can start one in the appropriate place. This thread wasn't to do with discussing the merits of different products but to share the price I found. It's this very attitude which caused me to stop posting here previously.

A bit harsh? I think @An Ankoù's post was about the relative cost of the different products in relation to their comparable uses and was my thought when reading the original post. I think it is a pertinent point in the discussion...

Oh, I love this! and a bargain thrown in as well,,,,, @ravey Your info is spot on. I do and will continue to use loads of Dex!!!!

Hi @An Ankoù, interesting, but don't these all these isomers contain unfermentables that flavour your brews? I use dextrose as I thought it was flavour neutral 95% fermentable and 5% H20. It cetrainly works to increase abv without any SRM as I aim for 5-6 in my cream blonde summer beer. However I used to use dark demorara sugar in stouts to add what I think of as a rummy flavour.:?:

How is it harsh? It's not a discussion and there are appropriate places to find such discussions, and I'm sure they already have arguments for different sides.

Unless you was a commercial brewer why would you need 25kg of sugar? 25 kits...2 a month...ok that sorta works...

If you don't want to buy in bulk you aren't somehow compelled to because I posted. I posted it for...... people who would be interested ......

I assume you bought everything else in this subforum which you didn't post stating you don't have a need for it?

This is a discussion forum if you do not want members to discuss the subject of your threads i suggest you ask me to lock them after you post in future, as for "attitude" yours in this thread has done you no favours.
