Added hops to my double IPA kit on Thursday when SG hovered about the 1008 mark for a couple of days.

Checked it just now and it's now at 1004. Any ideas on how its now fermenting more vigorously?

Thanks

Stevie

I wouldn’t say dropping from 1.008 to 1.004 is indicative of vigorous fermentation.

Depends how long it was sat at 1.008 for, it may well have had a little bit of fermenting out to go. Also there’s discrepancy in temperature at time of taking a reading and also human error on reading the hydrometer.

I would say 1.008 is pretty mad dry for a DIPA anyhow, 1.004 even more so.

Agree with @Clint, what is the expected FG? Would be very surprised if it was sub 1.012.

Just kegged an APA this evening which had a Starting gravity of 1.052 with down to 1.010 after 7 days with CML US pale ale yeast.
Dry hopped with 75g of mixed hops and kicked off in the bubbler which had stopped 3 days earlier.Checked final gravity today and was at 1.006.
It is known that hops can restart fermentation.
Forced carved at 40psi for 5 mins earlier and now sitting at 12psi serving pressure so I can try a cheeky pint once I get home.

Apologies to @stephen1546 (the O/P,,) this is not a wild yeasty highjack!

Depends on the range of the analysis. I get HMRC, OG, FG, wild yeast and bacteria/Hygiene usually about £100 x 2 P/A. I post 300ml of finished beer in a sterile sampling bottle. Analysis only takes a few days usually. This may seem expensive, but if you sell your beer it's kinda essential IMHOathumb..
I am then a little bit more confident I won't poison someone:eek::tinhat:

I added dry hops to my bad cat kit Sunday afternoon in a secondary fermenter with tap on. Noticed today when I got home the lid was bowed a bit. So just eased the lid up a little to let the pressure out. Also wondered what this was.
