It is time to start a new series of videos where I will recommend different types of kveik yeast.

This first video is all about the kveik yeast I recommend the most - Voss Gjernes kveik.

I go into its history, the farm version and a selection of common commercial isolate versions giving key information to help the viewer on their kveik journey. Whilst it is great to see so many people using this yeast now there is still much misunderstanding and misinformation out there and I hope this new series of videos will help people get the best results.

As usual, thank you for all your kind support and enthusiasm for my channel.

Please keep your questions, feedback and requests coming but please give me some time to answer, I get a lot of messages and answer them in the order they were sent in, particularly those on Facebook messenger tend to stack up!

If you are comfortable then please ask questions within Facebook groups or Youtube, so that others can also either benefit or contribute.

Happy brewing!

I've downloaded this on YT and will watch on my way home today. I like Voss, I've used it for a gose, pale ale and amber ale. The gose, which was subtle in its flavours, allowed the orange blossom from the yeast to add another dimension and gave the beer a nice cloudiness. This batch was a hit with many people!

I'd really like to see which strains of kveik are good for lager style beers.

Great. Well this kveik is great for lager style beers for a start. I will follow on with more videos looking at further types in the future.

I watched the video, really interesting stuff. You use voss for cider, is this turbo cider, cider made from fresh pressed apples, both? And do you ferment at 40c?

I've used Omega voss previously and I think that's the strain I have now. I've found that it ferments at 40C despite the packaging saying max is 38C. I also found it's not hugely flocculant and leaves a hazy beer.

I will try fermenting a kolsch with this which is high up on my brew list at <25 and see what happens.

I just use the farm version. It is better in various ways compared to the isloates out there. For cider I ferment it at around 30 deg c , which seems the sweet spot for ciders with this yeast and it comes out tasting very much like a regular cider. For Kolsch I just use Kolsch yeast :)

A kolsch yeast would be too simple :). Also I'm interested in seeing what type of 'lagers' (or to be more exact, malty tasting pale beers) different kveiks can produce. I also have hornindal I will experiment with too.

Thanks for your help!
