Picking up 40 Grolsch bottles from a private seller today plus a trip to the LHBS for the ingredients for a new recipe Belgian Tripel. Eight pounds of light DME, Dark Munich malt. Hallertau Mittelfruh, Styrian Golding and Saaz. Two packs of MJ M-41.

Brewed up this year's wet hop brew with my home grown cascade yesterday.
Nice simple recipe:
90% MO extra pale
5% golden naked oats
5% 'heritage' crystal malt
For 1.046
15 IBUs centennial for bittering
Then a shed load of cascade at 15mins, 5mins and 75C steep
Repitched a good dose of the CML Pia yeast saved from the last brew, and it's off and running nicely this morning

Yesterday morning brewed a Belgian based on a popular beer in my area. Went smoothly. OG 1.104. I added Munich and the color it added looks about right. I have no idea how close it will be in flavor but it should be okay.

Finally brewed my experimental Marmalade IPA been putting this off as I've only really followed recipes before, sample tasted OK though so fingers crossed it will turn out to be drinkable!

On Friday afternoon, brewed an English Bitter using my new Swan boiler:
Maris Otter 1.77Kg
Munich Light 787g
Crystal 60 141g
Black Malt 28g
Flaked Barley 112g
Magnum 14g for 30 mins
First Gold 5.5g for 10 mins
Perle 7g for 10 mins
Wilko Gervin Yeast
(30 minute boil)
Recipe developed in Brewgr then tweaked for BIAB by Biabacus. Aiming for ABV 4.1%

OG measured with refractometer 9 brix but was expecting 10.
No chill then pitched yeast Saturday morning. Airlock bubbling slowly but steadily by Sunday.
Fingers crossed.......

My last beer was an American Double IPA

Oh MyyyyPA

6.5kg Pilsner Malt
0.75kg Candi Sugar
200g Wheat Malt
200g Caraaroma
170g Victory Malt
130g Vienna

Warrior, Equinaut and Galaxy

California Ale WLP001

1.081SG
1.009FG
19.4 EBC
89.3 IBU

Bottling Thursday

It was only meant to finish at the 8.5% mark, but I don't think I'll be using the GF app for recipes in future, I'll go back to Beersmith.

Had a go at a porter today. Consisting if pale malt, flaked oats, Vienna malt, crystal 60, chocolate malt & roasted barley. Fwh of magnum to bu:gu ratio of 0.5. Thinking of being a heathen and adding marshmallow flavouring when bottling.

All done. Took a fair bit longer than usual as while mashing I googled sparging and found some articles suggesting taking an hour to and hour and a half to sparge and to maintain your water temp as you do. So this is what I did...
I added and extra kilo of grain to account for my average efficiency of around 60% before I read the article.
Anyway target OG was 1060, I got 1064,which accounting for my extra grain gives me approx 68% efficiency.
Not convinced that the extra hour was worth it really.
Perhaps I should save time and bung a kilo of sugar in...but then my beer tastes good as it is so does it matter?
Just me being OCD about it..

I know the low efficiency is annoying but if you are happy with the outcome it’s not a big deal, grain is cheap.

Have just finished my first brew in over 2 months. A best bitter with challenger and goldings, including some challenger in the late additions. Boiled for 90 mins, following last brew being slightly DMS'y, but must have miscalculated somewhere, because only ended up with 22 l. Liquored back with a litre of Ashbeck, OG 1.051, one point above target.

Following a recommendation I read recently, I rehydrated yeast (S-04) in 150ml water at 30-35°, left for 10 mins, swirled, left for 10 mins, pitched.
