In my experience, brewing a stronger beer doesn't help. If you're used to drinking say. four pints you won't be happy with less, It's the quantity, not the strength. I think the brewer's skill is being able to brew a satisfying beer that you can stick with all night without falling over. It's a cultural thing. I know the Belgians would disagree, but then they weren't weaned on pints.

Polypins are not really suited to lager styles nor Irish stout, where you need to have a carbonation level that would burst the bag. They're only suited to low carbonation so-called "real ales".

Traditional English ales are not citrussy. Stick to English style hops: Fuggles, WGV, Bramling Cross, Endeavour, Sovereign, Target, etc.

Are you still in Ireland living. I am Irish myself. The weather here would make it perfect to brew larger all through the winter no need for temp control. My garage is probably sitting around 5 degrees at the min.
 
Don't worry too much about it skulltat, if you drink 40 cans easily in a weekend you don't need to think too much about the long term. Just make sure you have a decent life insurance policy ashock1

Honestly mate, I am not joking here. You should seriously think about cutting down, that is not good for you at all. You are effectively drinking the equivalent of three and a half bottles of vodka each week.
I understand mate, I get what your saying

It's not an excuse but I do like to get drunk sometimes and depending on how I'm feeling (tired etc) I can take quite a bit of beer to get drunk.

This sounds immature but I'm sure there's a few on a forum like this that like to get drunk now and then lol

Although the constant supply is an issue most avid beer drinkers face..larger volumes are a nuisance if you're bottling I'd agree. I think cornies is you're best option as I think if you built up a load of plastic PB's you'd constantly be faffing round with them.
On a second thought would buying (if you can?) Some large pub kegs work.
 
This is a clear Supply Chain issue where you need first to establish 3 criteria
1. How much do you wish to consume weekly?
2. What is the lead time for each step in that chain.
3. Where is the bottleneck capacity in the SC.

1 is easy say 20 X 50 cl bottles = 10 litres
2. Brewday is say 6 hours, fermentation 10 days, bottling 3 hours, conditioning 10 days = 22 days.
3. There are two capacity issue brewing , fermenting and packaging. If your brewing and fermentation capacity is 20 litre brew every two weeks if 10 every week.
However neither of those are the bottleneck since you can brew every day if necessary. The bottleneck is available packaging. So sort this out and the rest is easy.

I have assumed that your raw materials are not a problem.

I've no idea about using pub style kegs, probably different connections I'd imagine though
 
I'm definitely thinking you will want to keg sooner than later. Mini kegs cheap enough to buy in supermarket and reuse if you're up for that. Pressure barrels if you're up for the faff (but not real helpful for lagers). Maybe 2L PET Bottles?
 
Beercat mentioned the 2ltr plastic bottles also. I can't remember the mini keg fittings, myqul mentioned them too. Are they easily cleaned and what equipment would be needed to refill them?

They're easy to refill, as Deadhead says, just use a bottling wand like a bottle. Just like a bottle they're easy to clean too. When you've emptied one, just rinse it out (dont let it sit overnight to dry with yeast dregs in or they're a pain to clean - just like a bottle)
 
I used to go to the pub every night after work and spent most of the day at the weekends in the pub i suppose my consumption must have been 50+ pints a week.though it never felt like it
 
In a good week I get to 15 pints. And that is 'good' as in 'the misses doesn't stop nagging'.
But I'd keg if I were you. And start looking for a 35L all in one.
