So the standard Aldi 1.5l orange cordial bottles are marked with a triangle with a 1 inside and say PET on, as do most of their bottles it seems. The caps don’t have a gasket in a such but seem very well sealing when I put them back on and won’t leak when physically crushed under serious pressure etc

are we to assume that these bottles and caps are ok to fill with home brew ?

If they didn't come with fizzy stuff inside, then your shouldn't put fizzy stuff inside.
I found this out to my cost whilst on holiday, had refilled small bottle with fizzy water, when I opened it, it popped very loudly and cap hit roof of train, got some accusing looks from other passengers.

Look at the threads inside the cap and the bottle neck, if the threads have gaps in them to vent gas safely, they may be ok to use. If the threads are continuous DON'T.

So I have asked before but came late to the party again - I am currently drinking Aldi or Lidl Sparkling Lemon and Lime water and they feel rigid and my wife is doing her bit with their Soda Water seem even more rigid so are these going to be up to the job please ?

Two things, most importantly if they were designed to hold fizzy drink, they can hold beer, you can check this by looking at the threads on the cap and neck, if they have gaps in them they will be ok, if they don't they won't. New rather than previous below.

Secondly, if the bottles are not brown, then any beer inside is liable to deterioration by UV light, leaving a 'skunky' flavour/taste. You can use them, but keep them dark, in a closed box / unlit cupboard etc.

Thanks very much - MmmBeer that was what I hoped to see in reply

I have only been saving former fizzy bottles and though some seem flimsy not they were "rock hard" when full. They all have the split threads as well

They will be in my windowless garage as well so should be ok UV light wise. Probably will be drunk way before they deteriorate

Many thanks again Wherry

been using asda sparkling water bottles for years, just had a look at one sell by date 2010! I make 15 gallon a month, mostly lager that has to sit for three month. Never had a problem with clear bottles, never had a beer that has sat for more than 7 month. (each year I make a marzen and leave till ocotober) Lidla perlenbacker in plastic bottleds make great altenatives (brown) only 500ml though.
