I'm trying to ease my way into AG brewing and have been toying with getting a bunch of Lager Malt in and doing a quick Lager Smash.
It'd be 5 Litres.
My original idea was to buy in some Saaz hops for this, but I have a whole heap of hops sitting in my freezer, so I might as well use some of them instead.
They are however, far more tailored to Citrus-IPAs rather than Lager.
I was just wondering if anyone had any recipe advice for this, I was thinking 1.5KG Lager Malt would be about right.
Hop wise I have Summit, Amarillo, Simcoe and Lemondrop.
Was thinking either a Smash with summit, or maybe Summit and Lemondrop.

I use Summit in a beer I regularly brew with Cascade. The Summit provides mostly bittering, Cascade mostly flavour. The beer has a slightly piney resinous taste which I believe comes from the Summit, certainly not the Cascade. Although I enjoy the combination of Summit and Cascade in my beer I would not want the same resinous taste in a lager. But if you do use Summit be mindful of the high IBUs it can bring.

I did an Amarillo lager once & it came out ok. It’s was part mash kit though so was fairly easy & basic to brew.

Any particular reason you want to start all grain with a lager? Have you made any before with extracts?

A couple of reasons; I have a 6gram pack of Lager Yeast left over from a Coopers Pilsner kit.
I've done a few small AG brews with Marris Otter and wanted to try something different.
As it's colder outside I figured it's the right time to be brewing Lager.

If you are intending to use the single pack of 7g? yeast that comes with both the Coopers Euro lager and Pilsner to brew your lager at low lager temperatures I suggest you consider doubling up on the yeast. 7g of yeast is not really enough for this and so you might get away it without the yeast giving up and you might not. Mine didn't, others had better luck. Read the main Euro lager thread for more

Ah yes, small batch should be ok. Do kit yeasts actually ferment at low temps? I only ever did ale kits and from what I'd heard I thought "lager" kits were just made with a clean yeast at ale temps.

I think ClownPrince is only going to brew a 5l batch, so the 7g yeast pack should be ok for that amount.
Well spotted athumb..

Coopers kits come with a variety of different yeasts, as indicated by a code on the packet. For example the Euro lager and Pilsner come with a lager yeast, the AuPa and the Cerveza come with a combination of an ale and lager yeast, and the Original Stout yeast is different from the Irish Stout.
