Hi I have just done a smash with Minch ale and Azacca hops and very disappointed with them it tastes like a noble hop so the beer is like a Pseudo lager/Pale Ale is there any hops that have disappointed you?

These are the descriptors Clint- Aromas of tropical fruits and citrus. Tasting notes of spicy mango, pineapple, tangerine and pine. it was nothing like this it was like Tettnang Hersbrucker etc, mega disappointed but its good for a lager type beer just we all look at the description and expect them to be something near but this one in my experience not at all

I had a similar experience with Mandarina Bavaria. It’s just a German hop with a hint of cascade.

I am also unable to taste any strawberry from Belma.

it is very subtle that one Mick I do think there are many hops that oversell themselves

I've been repeatedly disappointed with citra.

It's just not as punchy as everyone keeps saying. Even when I put close to 70g in a 15l batch along with other hops for bittering duties - it just doesn't sing like I think it should.

I think if you're new to US style hoppy IPA and such like, citra will be bright and beautiful. As you try bigger and bolder I think others seem to pale.
I think a refresh is sometimes needed to reset taste and perception.
Bitterness can be the same. I like beers with 40-50 ibus or more...and find them "just right". My mate, the Boddingtons kid, thinks they're way too much.

I like bitter beers Clint 35-60 mark, what I try and do is one bitter then a ipa with citra or other us hops, after a good bitter try a well hopped ipa and it will sing from the roof tops so yeah I agree have a rest and vary your beers

Hop aroma/flavour comes down to individual tastes, what some like others won't like, best thing also is to make sure to use hops as fresh as possible, doesn't take to long before they start to lose the flavour, pellets last longer, but still better fresh. I made that mistake once of using older hops and got the most bland beer I have ever had. Just not worth it when one will spend 5 hours brewing and clean up to end up with something not worthy of the time spent. I do rack into secondary for dry hopping and I have found FWH seemingly gives a better finish, on the beers I do it to.

There is a lot to be said about freshness or storage conditions. I find some of these companies aren't storing their hops correctly and aren't fresh when getting to the customer.

In one of their videos Genus Brewing said that they'd got really meh about citra and that over the years the crops have got worse. Chin back up, bub.

[Citra] It's just not as punchy as everyone keeps saying. Even when I put close to 70g in a 15l batch along with other hops for bittering duties - it just doesn't sing like I think it should.
Wow, that's going to give you around 150 IBUs if they go in for full boil. I usually keep the Citra for later additions and dry hopping. Magnum id a great bittering hop.
Disappointed with Mandarina Bavaria and Hüll Melon. Can't really catch either the citrus or the melon flavour in either. If you load up the beer with the it just tastes grassy.

Disappointed to read comments re Mandarina as have some conditioning. Well will just have to wait and see.
Must say I've found Nelson Sauvin a bit of a let down compared to its hype

Arrest this man and throw away the key

They were a fresh packet just bought and unopened. I am not a severe hophead and I have never had a hop that I have not got some flavour/aroma from albeit very mild on some but this one(maybe a bad batch) all i've got is the bitterness and the taste of using too much Tetnang or Herbrucker just like a Pseudo lager and by the way it had 1.5 Kilo of Rye in it with 1.5 Kilo of Minch ale malt. I gave it to the wife who has very good taste buds and I did not tell her what it was and her reply its a lager style so something has gone wrong with the hops as the descriptors as I posted earlier say Tropical etc etc, nothing just bitterness and Noble hop taste
Ps maybe packed and labeled wrongly? who knows

Just a thought I may make a small hop tea to taste, do you think that at least will give me a idea of what the hops taste like

People rave about Cascade, and it has such a lovely name. Supposed to taste of grapefruit - biggest dissapointment, yes it does taste of grapefruit! And I've got 2 of the damned things in my garden, but thankfully the homegrown ones are much more subtle than the purchased variety so I can just about bear it.
