As the COVID-19 virus bites even deeper here in the UK, I wonder how long it will be before the government is forcing pubs/bars to close? Joe Public is already stocking up on foodstuffs such as rice and pasta, even though he probably only eats pasta once a fortnight. You can bet your life that if pubs/bars are shut down, then those same morons that only visit the pub once a month will be clearing the supermarkets out of beer and wine

So, lets stay ahead of the game and get brewing athumb..
I've just put on a Beerworks IPA kit called 'St.George'. It is a limited edition kit from Lovebrewing that was on special offer. The SG of this (using just the supplied ingredients) was 1.061, the highest of any brew that I have done. If it ferments down to below 1.010 then we are looking at a brew pushing close to 7%ABV. That should be enough to see off this chuffin virus ashock1

I have just put a 30 bottle wine kit on and have a few beers in the fridge so OK for now, i am not too worried about them panic buying as they will go for their favourite brand of lager leaving the good stuff for the rest of us.

I panicked and bought a Grainfather to speed up my brewing day, probably get another on in a couple of weeks to tide me over ;)
Wife has a wine kit ready to go on too, but I have the Fermentation fridge, so she can wait...haha

I'm always in a panic. I brew as much as I can in case I can't get ingredients from the UK/IE after transition and then I drink it as fast as I can in case the world ends and I've wasted it.
A thought that has been worrying me is the nature of our beer- cask beer. It doesn't keep like bottled or kegged and if the pubs are closed there's going to be a lot of wastage and a lot of smaller breweries are going to have to stop brewing if they don't have kegging or bottling plants. I'm tempted to come and help drink our way out of this horror story.

Now this is sacrifice, I will help you out but we should probably sit on different tables at least 2 meters apart.

Swmbo has spent so much all I could afford to buy is ten of these from Sainsbury’s
Think they were 60p each FC0C7311-561A-4C0C-BDE5-F074A1F4C1B7.jpeg

An you sound just like me, keep on brewing I say bugs don't like alcohol clapa

Right, you've started the panic buying! Just been in wilco and found there was only 1 packet of yeast left. Then went to aldi, no apple juice for turbo cider and then no oats! Think I might have to turn to bird seed for brewing, unless that's all been snapped up by panic shoppers with no pasta or rice.

With Boris's latest announcement at 5.00pm today, they want everyone to stop unnecessary socialising including going to the pub, and from next weekend anyone over 70 plus anyone with health conditions (which they defined as anyone who needs an annual flu jab) to lock themselves up for 3 months. So that's me & the mrs off the streets for the forseeable...
Fortunately, although I've totally run out of beer and cider, we do have 30 bottles of wine and I've got 2 FVs bubbling away one of which is probably ready for bottling. 3 days to pressure up and away we go.

I have 5L of Yorkshire Bitter in a keg just opened , a 9L batch of Landlord Clone in a 5 and 4 L growler, (kegged on Saturday) 9 L of London Porter currently in primary.

Have grain and hops for another 36L, plus a 20 festival kit. Throw in assorted bottles in the garage (both home brew and commercial) and I effectively have about 100L of beer. Of course while normally this would last me for months, I normally mix in drinking at home with going to the pub, and buying growlers of beer and bottles here and their,

But yes real concern is sudden difficulty with the courier firms getting anything in, also I normally like to keep a steady pipe line so I have a ,ox of beers and can properly age them.
