hi all
I’m going to have a go at elderflower wine. By the way I’m a complete novice. So I’ve purchased a 500ml cordial. so the question is will this make a gallon of wine
Any advice will be much appreciated
Cheers

It all depends on:
  1. The sugar content and flavour. Too little sugar will make for a very weak wine unless you add sugar/honey/syrup etc and too little flavour ditto for taste.
  2. The presence of preservatives. i.e. if any are present it won't ferment.

Ditto to Dutto.

I did make a nice elderflower flavoured wine using Shloer white grape and elder flower (it's on offer at Tesco at £1 a bottle from time to time) just as an experiment, I did use 5 bottles to make a gallon though.

I have just bottled a gallon of Apple and Elderflower made using about half a bottle of this and youngs general purpose wine yeast, nutrient & pectolase.

Must say I am very impressed with it.

Richie, would you mind sharing the recipe for your apple and elderflower wine? I've got all the youngs stuff you've listed and an empty demijohn - just need the rest! 😁

If you want to make elderflower wine from scratch select the trees that smell "nice"
Avoid any that smell like cats p$$s
ElderBERRY wine is not subject to the same restrictions.

For those inrerested Elderfower makes great sparkling wine as well as wands.!!!:laugh8:

Just in passing Youngs general purpose yeast compound is great for normal wines.

Folk can allways move to something more specific later.

Dried elderflowers work well. Personally though I think it works better as a dry wine and not high alcohol

I've posted the recipe up on it's own, then realised it should maybe move into the WOW section, but may get lost in there. Worth a go and would be interested if you change direction with it. I think I would reduce the sugar a bit and add some oak chips next time.

Thanks for the link Richie.

I'll give that a try. Just need to wait on wine tannin and bentonite being delivered, and my trip to Aldi this evening will now have apple juice included on the shopping list! Just need to visit Morrisons/ASDA/Sainsburys at some point too for the Elderflower Cordial. I'll update this thread with my results.
