Iv noticed aldi are doing a lot more craft ales particularly the cans.
God knows the names but ive been pleasantly suprised with the varieties of hops used ranging from mosaic, galaxy ella simcoe (the list goes on)
And being a traditionalist i left the proper job till last but was underwhelmed with what i remember was a fairly hoppy beer.
So hats off to aldi for really pushing the boat out for some really cracking summer quenching hop banging beers!

You can't trust one bottle. It's either the quality of the batch or the shipping or the storage but sometimes a beer can be stupendous, next bottle you get rubbish. When we first started actually tasting beer rather than using it as just a means to an end we never noticed.

Good point. It did seem odd as i know this is a highly hopped beer. I wont write it off just yet

I agree, I have been very impressed.

I understand it is Marstons who do all of Aldi and Lidl’s own brand range.

I had a can from them recently, brewed by Brains of Cardiff. I think they are mixing it up with suppliers. Not a bad idea in my opinion.

Cheers, Nick

The freak ale one is especially morish. Citra topaz ella and galaxy. Not overly sweet not too dry.
Theres also a 'shake a tree' one by a different brewery which i couldnt see the hop profile but was well balanced.
I gave the orange IPA out too which i thought was pretty impressive.

I havent been lidl in a while (year or so) but cant remember any apart from the rye IPA that really had any hop punch unless someone can tell me theyve widened theyre beer selection?

They do a saison from 66degree north in scotland which is very good and makes a change from the ipas which tend to dominate the "craft" section.

My Aldi favourites are; Phantom pale ale brewed by Freak Aleworks which I found to be a great fruity, fresh and hoppy beer. Stateside IPA by the Buckhorn brewery, again very light and floral using Citra and Chinook hops. Also, Hop 'til you Drop brewed by the Hop Foundry, which had quite a dry taste with a hint of grapefruit.

I log the beers I taste on an app called Pint Please. Does anyone else here use it? Been on it nearly 3 years and logged around 120 different beers. It helps to look back for info as posted above.

They're both excellent, wish the ABV was a little higher to give a bit more depth but at a quid a can they're great value. Never imagined ten years ago that Aldi would carry such decent beer. Wonder who brews them though, it'll be one of the big names rebranded for sure.
