Hi everyone.

I believe my valve on the pressure cap is loose. I've tightened the best I can without turning the cap but here's my dilemma: adding more co2, which it needs, will loosen it again.

(Please excuse the clutter in the picture!)

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated!

If your cap and/or valve need maintenance, depressurise the PB by putting the PB on its side and vent through the tap, remove the cap, put some cling film over the opening, then do what is necessary to sort it out, then reinstall it. And reprime or use CO2 to repressurise. Check after a few days to see if its holding pressure

You could remove the cap, cover the keg with a piece of sanitised foil, sort the valve out, sanitise the cap, either prime with half-ish the amount of priming sugar to recarb it or use c02. I think you'll be ok as long as you're quick and sanitise everything.

I have several small co2 cartridges. How many do you think I'll need? I seem to need one for every third it goes down, and a full kit makes my barrel look about 2 thirds full.

Would two do it?

In mid March I used 85g of table sugar to prime about 20 litres of beer in my PB similar to yours, and this has not needed topping up. Tonight I will empty it and there is still more than enough pressure left to dispense the last pint or so. In winter I might have to reprime once.
I suggest you use sugar for the initial carbonation and then top up with a bulb. But if you are using lots of bulbs you might have a leaky PB. So test everywhere (yes everywhere) with soapy water when initially pressurised.

I'm pretty sure it's the valve that needs securing. I used a bulb at the weekend and the pressure is nearly gone.

I'll secure the valve, carbonate the barrel and it's probably a good idea to drink up a bit 🍻

Once it's gone I'll test the whole barrel. Thx everyone for your help.

If you had a spare cap, you could just slacken the faulty one slightly until the PB is depressurised, then quickly change the caps over and re-pressurise. It may need 12 hours or so to settle, but that is all.
