With a healthy influx of new and returning brewers, there have been a few questions circulating about process. I put together this single page process flow that shows options for:
  • Single pot BIAB (stockpot)
  • Stockpot and cooler mash tun
  • Electric BIAB with variations
  • 2 vessel (utilises FV to collect runnings)
  • 3 vessel
Each step is given a number for reference.
This is by no means a full guide, rather an at-a-glance look at the overall process options and flow. I haven't shown more complex RIMS or HERMS systems as this is a beginners guide.
Note: Where Electric HLT or Kettle are shown, these could have an equivalent for propane or induction hob. Also stockpot BIAB could equally refer to an electric single vessel BIAB (except for sink cooling).

I hope this is easy enough to read and useful to someone. You may need to zoom in to read the text.
If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. I'll include them up to a point until it becomes unmaintainable.

This is a great resource if you're looking to start with a stockpot: Have a go at simple AG

I started brewing 2-3 years back and struggled to visualise the difference between a 2 and 3 vessel kit based on the info that was available at the time. 2 vessel kits didn't really seem well described at the time and I thought I was going a bit mad (but maybe just not reading the right source material).

This flow chart definately improves that learning curve and explains the process briefly (in terms of required equipment), but clearly (in terms of the overall process), so on behalf of the community, I personally thank you for putting the time into creating it!

I'm currently upgrading from a 2 vessel kit to HERMS, but did also consider RIMS for a long while. It might be very opinionated, but I feel like there might also be some benefit to recommending some upgrade paths from these types of kits too - separate to this pdf. I know that ive personally spent a lot of time debating the pro's and con's of my next upgrade and I'm sure many will follow similar footsteps in the future.

@BenBroadley88 thanks for the feedback, is good to know that the diagram is readable and makes sense. I should probably write a few notes about each step.

@Leon103 if you can find a link to the basic home brewing guide I'll include it in the original post.
