"Packages marked as ‘earrings’ spark biosecurity concerns and global investigations into origins"

"mystery seeds are among potentially thousands of shipments reported this week in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Europe, including about 100 cases in the UK. The packages have sparked biosecurity concerns and international investigations into their origins."

That is weird looks like they think it may be a scam of some kind, are the triffids going to take over the world. :laugh8:

The USDA has said it “doesn’t have any evidence” to indicate this is anything other than a brushing scam. But the Kentucky state agriculture commissioner, Ryan Quarles, took another view: “We don’t have enough information to know if this is a hoax, a prank, an internet scam or an act of agricultural bioterrorism.”

Goward admits to being unsettled. “It’s a little worrying, actually. There’s a lot of people receiving these seeds – not just in England, all over the world.” She says, half-joking: “That big Triffid thing – it could be one of those, couldn’t it?”

The seeds are not really seeds they are containers for micro bots that join together boot up your PC and steal your bank account details. :tinhat:

We had some seeds... Mrs planted them they've grown very big in the conservatory. Actually the Mrs went in 20 mins ago to water them.... I'd better check on her...

I think they are looking for people posting pictures of the seeds on-line so that they can confirm the address delivered and scan with a bar code. They then use the confirmed address to post fake product reviews using a validated address. So best not to post a pic with the label or package details.

I have heard about this. Not sure what it's all about.

If they have the address and addressee correct they don't need to verify it.

I'm not one for conspiracy but it definitely sounds like an easy way to spread something if u were in that buisness modern technology would make that easy I reckon

Mrs ordered some seeds and they came described as earrings on outside packaging. I assumed it was to circumvent customs rules prohibiting importation of seeds, agricultural samples, etching. Not sure what we ordered that you couldn't get in Dobbies mind.

The brother-in-law had some arrive and planted them in pots in the green house. When they came up, and they came up rather quickly, they turned out to be some sort of Chinese giant bamboo that grows very rapidly and on all accounts can be extremely invasive, some reports even state they could become a threat to biodiversity if allowed to get "out into the wild". There has got to be a conspiracy in there somewhere? ;-)

From DoJ's wkiki link

in July 2020, thousands of packages of seeds marked with false descriptions such as earrings were received all over the world from China. The mysterious seeds caused biosecurity concerns but were thought to be another brushing scam. Authorities such as DEFRA and USDA investigated and agriculture commissioner Ryan Quarles said "We don’t have enough information to know if this is a hoax, a prank, an internet scam or an act of agricultural bioterrorism." China Post said that the mailing labels had been forged while Taiwan intended to fine a Chinese logistics company for transshipping contraband.[7

so thats probably what it is thanks @dad_of_jon athumb..

If you receive anything like this, you definitely shouldn't plant them, but also you shouldn't just throw them away. They should be burned.

Also, you shouldn't buy seeds from outside the UK or on Ebay, Amazon etc unless from a reputable company as it can have dite consequences.
