Is that just this year because of the pandemic? We stayed just outside Carlisle last year and travelled daily down to Penrith area (Keswick, Pooley Bridge, Patterdale etc) and back again and was amazed how empty the M6 was. We're back to the same place in 6 weeks hopefully.

The roads in the lakes are crammed every time the sun comes out i think the M6 backup is probably due to an accident as once you get past Preston/Lancaster its usually a lot quieter.

Ouch! Why would ya do it? I'm sitting in me shed, beer in hand planning world domination and the art of...brewing.

It's the same with beaches that have been in the news why go there it's obvious they are going to be packed by mid morning and there will be nowhere to park, idiots the lot of them.

My wife and I are still staying safely at home thank you very much! Local news here is dominated with article after article about yet another pub turning into the latest in a long line of Covid hubs (as opposed to Corona Pubs?)..... Virus hasn't gone anyway, yet folks still want to jam together in large numbers every time the sun comes out.... We go sit in the back garden a bit, maybe spark up the barbie...

The economy can go fluff itself if the cost of saving it is the health of my family and myself....

Yeah, we're the same, If I 'had' to visit a beach I'd pick the most desolate stretch of sand a shingle that Google earth could offer me, as I say I'm sticking to my shed!!

I doubt I would ever go to the lakes between April and October, the place is knackered by tourism. Not quite as bad but getting there where I live in the Peak District, fortunately we live in a quiet village with no attractions or any reason to come.
And still the tourist boards promote more and more to visit, crazy.

I just dont get why people want to fry them selfs risk getting cancer or looking like a prune at 60, no not for me days out in the wilderness for me most people dont see our national parks in all there naked glory only the touristy bits they are like sheep and getting ripped off athumb..

Because most people don't have the imagination to not be like sheep, they need to have somewhere to head for, they do it here. What shall we do on Sunday? Lets's go to (input any of the tourist hotspots) get in the car, queue for miles, struggle to park, get overheated, get ****** off, finally park, walk round the hotspot, buy a trinket and an ice cream, get back in the car and join the queue home.

Spot on there mate, its not for me, fold down table goes in the car 2 chairs a load of grub in the cool box flask and off we go love it, its like benidorm were you get off the plane Alicante what an absolute gem of a place and missed by the sheep who just get on a coach and go to little new york

I remember when lockdown started, paths I liked to walk that were usually fairly quiet were suddenly packed with people who normally only walk to their car and back.... Then they would post on Faceache about how they "Had to get exercise for my mental wellbeing!!!" where usually they'd either be at work or watching soaps on TV.... Sheep led by ill meaning shepherds.

We live in the Lakes, pretty much always have done, car never left the house today, you just know when its going to be bad, but this year is the worst its ever been! Crazy stuff.

... I think we all have to recognise that, with hundreds of thousands to millions of people not going to Spain/Portugal/Greece/Turkey/wherever this year EVERYWHERE in UK is going to be much busier this year ... chances are ALL of us are going to end up in a traffic jam or two sometime, no matter how clever we all think we are :confused.: ... I wonder how many of us will be back on here owning up to that when it happens to us :?:

Cheers, PhilB
