Just as a general comment, you probably don't need to go to Cheddleton.

IME local breweries are pretty helpful about this kind of thing for the same reason that Staffs Brewery does it - the more malt they buy (even for resale), the better prices they get from their wholesalers.

Particularly at the moment when things are tough for them with the collapse in pub sales thanks to Tier 2, they will likely have surplus malt in their own stocks that they would be glad to turn into cashflow - it's a practical thing you can do to help them out, without having to go over the border.

Thanks

Good idea - I will investigate more local breweries

Breaking news: just had a reply from Merlins, willing to supply 25kg crushed MO from Fawsetts and will get back with prices on Monday. Saying he can get any malts from them but only in 25kgs.
We are now in the controlling seat - we can set the benchmark which is currently based on Staffs Breweries prices

Looks a great buy and idea if a few get on board...it would probably be worth my while getting a couple of sacks even coming from Wrexham...but not at the moment under the current junta...

I should be over Wrexham way by December, could pay you half your fuel if you'd be keen to keep a sack at yours for a few days?

I was in contact with Beartown before the lockdown, they were very helpful and offered to sell me some grains, and ever a free brew day. Unfortunately with restrictions and how busy they were I wasn't able to do either. That said, I'm sure if you came to them with a full list they could offer you just above trade prices.

As you’ve already established contact, is it possible for you to follow it up, I’m just down the road from Congleton as are some of the others here?

Can do, if one of you wants to PM me your email, I'll ask that they mind picking up with you for the order etc

Good news, they are happy to add to their order. Must be full 25kg sacks (but that was the same for North Staffs), they order base malts once a week and specialty malts every two. Comes directly from Muntons, so prices will likely be same as North Staffs. He will confirm shortly as he doesn't know off the top of his head.

Might be worth having a single point of contact, with shopping list and kitty upfront to ease proceedings?
